Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
You state a clear position—“I totally agree”—and give a relevant reason: people with low incomes may struggle to pay for water used in daily life. This shows an understanding of the topic, but the response addresses it only minimally. The claim that “anybody can afford water” is unclear and appears to conflict with your point about poor people facing high costs. You do not explain why water should be free in every home, consider how this might be funded, or provide a specific example. The response is also substantially below the required 250 words, so there is not enough development to support your position. Extend your reasons with explanation and relevant examples, and make your argument consistent.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic progression: it introduces the issue, states agreement, and begins to give a reason. Phrases such as “Nevertheless” and “first and foremost” show an attempt to connect ideas. However, the organisation remains very limited, with no developed sequence of supporting points or conclusion. The relationship between “anybody can afford water” and the later claim that buying water costs poor people a lot is also difficult to follow. Use separate paragraphs for your position, each main reason, and a conclusion, and make the links between claims explicit. This would create clearer progression rather than relying on a few connectors.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “clean water,” “water supply,” “citizens,” and “poor people,” so the main subject is understandable. However, the range is narrow and several expressions are imprecise or repetitive. “Basic human need” is related to the prompt’s idea of a human right, but the response does not develop that distinction. “Daily work” and “everyday basic work” are vague for describing household water use, while “free to the individuals” sounds unnatural. Aim for more precise phrases such as “essential household needs,” “low-income households,” and “provided at no cost.” Check spacing and capitalisation as well, since inconsistent spacing around punctuation affects the presentation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You communicate your main position using mostly simple sentence patterns, and the sentence beginning “If people have to buy water…” shows an attempt to use a conditional structure. However, the range is narrow, and errors in agreement and sentence construction are noticeable. For example, “everyday basic work demand” should use a plural subject or a singular verb, and “it will cost a lot for the poor people” does not clearly identify what “it” refers to. There are also inconsistent spaces before punctuation and after sentence boundaries. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and build a wider range of sentences, while checking that pronouns have clear references and punctuation is correctly placed.
