Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some argue that everyone should have access to pure water because it is a human right and it should be for without a price tag. I firmly agree with the statement because, health benefits and some people lack the affordability of pure water.

Health is one of the important life luxury everyone seeks regardless of their position, title or the location. There are number of illness in the world because of consuming unpurified water. Kidney problems are highly common in people who are not using clean water. For example, in Sri Lanka, a village called Bakmitiyawa, consume water from a lake, because they do not have access to pure water. A number of poeple diagnosed with kidney stones and other illnesses due to this development. It is rather unfair that losing access to pure water and that leading into health problems. If the water is provided free of charge and nation-wide, such problems would not exists.

Wealth is not equally distributed among the people. Therefore, a large number of people struggle everyday to make a living. Inability to afford clean water is an unfortunate incident some people face everyday. For instance, a number of countries in Africa continent struggle to find money to buy fresh water for their essential needs. The access to fresh water sources would made their live thousand time easier and convienient.

In conclusion, I completly agree with the statement and believe that everyone should have access to fresh water and it should be free of charge. A number of people suffer from bad health conditions and due to lack of affordability. The decisions should changed for the right reasons like these.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction (“I firmly agree”) and remains consistent in the conclusion. You give two relevant reasons—health protection and affordability—and support them with examples, including the Sri Lankan village and people in African countries. This addresses the task well. However, the affordability argument is less fully explained: you mention difficulty buying fresh water, but do not show how a free household supply would be funded or managed. The health example also needs clearer detail about the link between the water source and the illnesses. To strengthen the response, develop each reason with a more precise explanation and consider the practical implications of providing water free of charge. The response already has a clear, relevant argument, but some ideas need fuller support and qualification.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion. The progression from health to affordability is logical, and signposting such as “For example,” “Therefore,” and “In conclusion” helps readers follow the argument. This organisation is effective, though some connections are mechanical or unclear. For instance, “It is rather unfair that losing access to pure water and that leading into health problems” does not clearly connect the idea of unfairness to the preceding example. The conclusion repeats the main points but does not add a final implication. Improve cohesion by using clearer references to earlier ideas and by linking each example explicitly to the claim it supports, rather than relying mainly on formulaic transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “unpurified water,” “affordability,” “health conditions,” and “free of charge,” and your meaning is generally understandable. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “kidney stones” and “essential needs.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “life luxury,” “for without a price tag,” and “the access to fresh water sources would made their live thousand time easier” are examples. Spelling errors such as “poeple,” “convienient,” and “completly” also reduce control. Aim for natural collocations and check word forms and spelling; for example, use “a basic necessity,” “at no cost,” and “make their lives much easier.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including cause-and-effect clauses such as “because they do not have access to pure water” and conditional phrasing such as “If the water is provided free of charge…”. The main ideas remain understandable, but errors in sentence structure, agreement, verb forms, and articles are noticeable. Examples include “There are number of illness,” “a village called Bakmitiyawa, consume water,” “such problems would not exists,” and “The decisions should changed.” The opening sentence also has an incomplete construction in “it should be for without a price tag.” Work on forming complete clauses, matching subjects and verbs, and using the correct verb form after modal verbs (“would not exist,” “should be changed”). More accurate control of these patterns would make your argument easier to read.
