Student answer (Band 5.5)
Access to clean drinking water is essential for every human survival, so an adequate amount of pure water must be available to every household without having to pay for it. I strongly believe that drinking clean and pure water is necessary for good health, so it must be supplied without any charge.
The primary reason why water should be free is that it is essential for maintaining healthy life style and preventing diseases. Impure water is a source of different harmful diseases. In developing countries, many people do not have enough money to fulfil their basic needs easily. So how is it possible for them to buy clean water? Providing people with sufficient amount of safe water can prevent them from getting serious diseases. They hardly buy their other bills. It is very difficult for them to use healthy and necessary nutrients that is the requirement of our body.
Secondary, it will promote social equality and compassion. Water is not a luxury product that people can simply avoid purchasing it. It is one of basic needs of human life. It is essential for every human to drink fresh and pure water. Businessmen and other rich people should donate money to install water palnts in those places where it is impossible for people to have clean water. People can easily get fresh and clean water without paying a single penny. Providing people with sufficient amount of safe water can prevent them from getting serious diseases. Every human must drink quality water because drinking clean water will keep them fit.
In conclusion, water is basic necessity of every human. Safe and fresh water must be supplied to every household without paying any bill. Although governments must manage the cost of maintaing water infrastructure, ensuring universal access to this basic resource should remain a priority.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear from the introduction: you strongly support free access to clean water, and the conclusion restates this view while acknowledging infrastructure costs. The health argument is relevant and includes a link between unsafe water and disease, while the equality paragraph explains why water should not be treated as a luxury. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, the claim that free water promotes equality would be stronger with a clearer account of how charges disadvantage poorer households. The reference to wealthy people donating to install water plants also shifts attention from the question of whether every home should receive a free supply. Develop these ideas with specific reasoning or an example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the main ideas are generally easy to follow. Paragraphs are organised around health and social equality, which gives the essay an overall direction. However, progression within the body paragraphs is uneven: the health paragraph moves from affordability to disease and then to bills and nutrients without clearly connecting each point. The phrase “They hardly buy their other bills” is difficult to interpret, and the repeated sentence about preventing serious diseases in both body paragraphs weakens development. Use clearer links between claims and explanations, and avoid repeating the same supporting point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “essential,” “basic needs,” “social equality,” “safe water” and “water infrastructure.” These choices communicate the central argument, and there is some attempt to use more formal language. However, several word-choice and collocation problems make parts of the essay sound unnatural, such as “healthy life style,” “other bills,” “healthy and necessary nutrients” and “water palnts.” The repeated use of “clean,” “pure,” “fresh” and “sufficient amount” also limits variety and precision. Aim for more accurate topic-specific phrasing and check spelling; for instance, distinguish between access to a water supply and the quality of the water provided.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a reason clause in “The primary reason why water should be free is that…” and a conditional question about whether poorer people can afford clean water. Most sentences remain understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. Examples include “for every human survival,” “one of basic needs,” and “nutrients that is the requirement,” where possessive or article use and subject–verb agreement need attention. The sentence “Water is not a luxury product that people can simply avoid purchasing it” also combines structures incorrectly. Review articles, agreement and clause construction, and proofread punctuation and spacing to make your meaning consistently clear.
