Student answer (Band 6.0)
I believe that clean water should be labeled as a basic human right, moreover every family and/ or an individual should get free water supply, this is due to the fact that many humans cannot afford water, in addition water is something we get from the earth therefor it should not be labeled as an luxury.
We cannot survive without water, it has been proven that if a human does not drink water in over 2-3 days it will cause death. This is because water is an essential for the human body, since the human body is made mainly from water it should not be something we have to pay for. I believe that anything we can get from the earth should be an right not an luxury. we are animals and taking a crucial thing for survival just because certain individuals cannot afford it is not fair.
for instance if water was not provided by the earth and it was something we had to make like chocolate I would understand why it cost us money however water is given to us by the earth, one of the reasons it is not always clean is because of humans and their rubbish. therefor it cannot be an luxury when unclean water was cause by all of us not only the low-income individuals.
This is why I agree that water is a right not a luxury there is no one who deserves it more than another individual. not because of money or status

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the opening: you agree that water should be free, and you maintain this view in the conclusion. You give relevant reasons, including water’s importance for survival, affordability, and the fact that pollution is often caused by human activity. The comparison with chocolate also helps illustrate your argument. This meets the task well, but some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, the claim that anything obtained from the earth should be a right is broad, and the essay does not consider practical issues such as the cost of treating and delivering clean water. The point about low-income people is relevant but could be developed with a specific example. More balanced explanation would make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, supporting paragraphs, and a concluding statement. Ideas generally follow a sensible order, moving from water’s necessity to its natural source and the role of pollution. You also use linking expressions such as “This is because,” “for instance,” and “This is why.” However, connections can feel mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “therefor” and “because,” and some sentences contain several ideas joined together, making the progression harder to follow. Paragraphing is present, but the final paragraph is very brief and does not fully draw together the reasons. Use clearer topic sentences and divide long chains of ideas into more focused sentences to improve cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “basic human right,” “essential,” “survival,” “low-income individuals,” and “status.” These choices make your main argument understandable. However, the range is somewhat limited, with repeated use of “water,” “right,” and “earth,” and several phrases are not natural or precise, such as “an luxury,” “free water supply,” and “water was cause by all of us.” Spelling errors such as “therefor” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise topic vocabulary and check common collocations and word forms. For example, you could refer to “access to safe drinking water,” “water-treatment costs,” or “water infrastructure” when developing the practical side of the issue.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, using structures with “since,” “if,” and “because,” and your meaning is generally clear. Some sentences are controlled, such as “We cannot survive without water.” However, there are several grammatical errors in longer sentences. The opening is a comma splice, joining complete clauses with only a comma, and “it should not be something we have to pay for” has an unclear reference. Other examples include “an luxury,” “it cost us money,” and “water was cause by all of us,” which show problems with articles, verb forms, and sentence construction. Capitalisation after full stops is also inconsistent. Use shorter, complete sentences where needed and proofread articles, verb forms, and punctuation.
