Student answer (Band 5.5)
Having access to clean water is a basic human right. In my opinion, l agree every home should have a water supply that is provided free of charge mainly because it avoids spreading of germs and it can improve the countries hygine.
The most compelling reason is that, free clean water can avoid the spread of germs. In other words, many waterbone diseases can be spread if there is no access to clean water. Many germs are transmitted from one place to another if there is no effective sanitation. This means that free charge of clean water can reduce this diseases. For instance, in Zimbabwe back then many people were affected with water-bone diseases such as cholera because there was no clean water and water was expensive to those who were poor. As a result, many individuals lost their beloved ones. This means that, clean water must be provided free of charge so that many lives can be saved.
Another significant reason is that, free access to clean water can improve the countries hygine and attract tourist. This means that, countries hygine can attract many tourist in the country. For instance, In Zimbabwe many individuals from European countries enjoyed visiting the country because of the cleanliness. As a result, this can generate funds as more tourist visit.
To concude, in my opinion, l agree that every home should have water supply that is provided free of charge because access to clean ater is a basic human right as it avoids spreading of germs and it can improve the countries hygine.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear: you agree that household water should be free, and you give two relevant reasons—preventing disease and improving hygiene. The Zimbabwe examples make the first point more concrete, but the tourism argument is less fully explained: the link between free household water, cleanliness, and attracting visitors needs clearer support. The conclusion restates your view, although it adds little development. The response is 230 words, so it is 20 words below the required minimum; this limits the space available to explain and support your ideas. To strengthen the response, develop each reason with a clearer explanation and a specific, relevant example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphs are generally focused, and signposts such as “The most compelling reason” and “Another significant reason” help readers follow the main points. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes repetitive or unclear. For example, “This means that” appears several times, and the connection between free water and attracting tourists is asserted rather than logically demonstrated. Some references, such as “this diseases,” are also unclear. Use a wider range of linking methods, make cause-and-effect relationships explicit, and ensure each sentence advances the paragraph’s central idea.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “clean water,” “sanitation,” “water-borne diseases,” and “provided free of charge,” so the main ideas are understandable. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems reduce precision. Examples include “waterbone,” “hygine,” “clean ater,” and “free charge”; “countries hygine” is also an awkward expression. “Tourist” is repeated, and “beloved ones” is less suitable for the formal discussion of deaths. Build a more accurate range of topic language and check spelling carefully. More precise expressions for public health and tourism would help you explain your arguments without relying on repeated basic wording.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a conditional structure in “if there is no access to clean water” and a result clause beginning “As a result.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence construction, agreement, articles, and punctuation are noticeable. For example, “free clean water can avoid the spread” needs a more suitable grammatical construction, while “this diseases” has incorrect agreement. Commas are also often placed after introductory phrases where they are unnecessary, as in “The most compelling reason is that, free clean water…” The essay remains understandable, but these recurring errors make some sentences awkward. Practise accurate clause patterns and review agreement and punctuation.
