Student answer (Band 6.0)
Clean water is a basic amenity that each house should have access to whithout having to pay for it and this text will explain my stand.
The importance of water cannot be overemphasized, As nothing can be done without it from basic chores to agricultural use for example watering of plants in gardens.
Water should be given for free as occupants of houses already pay for electricity. In some developing countries like Nigeria, inasmuch as you own a land you can dig a borehole and have access to clean water, that means as tenants and occupants of that house you can also access the water without buying it because youre paying for rent as as well as electricity bill which is used to pump the water girectly from the ground. Water is a natural resources that is gotten from various source. So why sell something you didn't pay to get access to in the first place? I understand that certain measures were put in place for it to be free from harmful substances and safe for drinking but this is what tax money should be used for.
Also access to clean water helps in the prevention of certain types of diseases such as Cholera. Whilst treatment of diseases are good prevention is better. Research over the years has shown that Educating people on healthy living does more good than harm, a mother who inow the importance of clean water and safe drinking habit will end up preventing diseases from entering her home.
In clonclusion, I agree that every home should have access to clean water at no cost as this would prevent people from searching for a more affordable yet harmful option and thereby preventing the entire home at large.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the opening and conclusion: you agree that homes should receive clean water without charge. You support this with relevant points about household costs, access through boreholes in Nigeria, and disease prevention, so the response addresses the question and shows some development beyond simply stating an opinion. The example of tenants benefiting from a borehole is particularly relevant. However, the argument that water is a natural resource and therefore should not be sold needs more explanation, especially because treating and distributing safe water also involve costs. The point about tax money is asserted rather than developed, and the health paragraph shifts toward education without fully explaining how free household supply would prevent illness. More balanced, specific support would strengthen the response further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The ideas generally progress from the importance and cost of water to its health benefits, and linking expressions such as “Also” and “In conclusion” help signal this movement. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. The long Nigeria example combines land ownership, tenants, rent, electricity, and pumping in one sentence, making the relationship between these points difficult to follow. The transition from clean water to educating people about healthy living also needs a clearer link. Use shorter sentences to separate the example’s steps, and make each paragraph’s main point explicit before adding supporting details.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “borehole,” “harmful substances,” “prevention,” and “agricultural use.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and the meaning is generally clear. There are, however, some spelling and word-choice errors, including “whithout,” “girectly,” “inow,” and “clonclusion.” A few phrases are also imprecise or unnatural: “a basic amenity” is less suitable than language emphasising a right, while “Water is a natural resources” has an incorrect form and “searching for a more affordable yet harmful option” is vague. Aim for precise collocations and proofread spelling and word forms; this would make the argument more fluent and controlled.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “a mother who … will end up preventing diseases” and a conditional structure in “as tenants and occupants … you can also access the water.” This gives the response some variety, and the main message remains understandable. Some grammatical errors nevertheless reduce accuracy. For example, “Water is a natural resources” has a singular–plural mismatch, and “as as well as” disrupts the sentence structure. The opening sentence joins two independent ideas with “and” without clear punctuation, while the long borehole sentence contains several clauses that are difficult to control. Check agreement and sentence boundaries, and divide heavily loaded sentences into shorter units.
