Student answer (Band 5.5)

I partially agree with the statement that water supply should be free of charge. Everything has its pros and cons. As a basic human right and essential element of nature it has significant role.

Firstly getting water supply free of cost would be a revolutionary step for any citizens.Specially who lives hand to mouth and lower middle class family. There are lack of water supply in my country in many districts and areas. Even if we pay bills accurately we do not get much water to complete our daily works. But having water supply with no cost and regular people would feel like over the moon. A recent survey on water investigation says that the water supply shoould be available at a low cost and should maintain daily supply. Because there are some areas where water expenses high and it grasps almost 1 part of a empolyer's monthly salary, source(The Daily Star). So it will be a heavenly initiative for these kind of area cases.

In contrast, getting water supply for free of charge might be danger. Day by day the population in increasing.People are using more and more water at a immense level. Many big companies are wasting water at a risky level that is causing lack of water supply. If the water supply will get free of charge most of the invidulas and companies will use water recklessly. A news reported by "The Daily Star" that industrial companies are wasting about [redacted phone] liters of water every month. The news is really alarming to think at least onece before taking any steps to make water supply cost free. The GDP of certain type of country may fall down and face challanges. It will be appropriate if government somehow manages to find the people really need of this free service and prepare a monitoring on those individuals.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both sides of the issue and give a qualified position in the opening: you “partially agree” because free water could help poorer households, while unrestricted access may encourage waste. The examples about unreliable supply and industrial use are relevant, and your final suggestion of targeted support shows an attempt to reach a practical conclusion. However, the position is not fully resolved: it remains unclear whether you support free basic household water, free water for selected groups, or low-cost supply. Some claims, such as the effect on GDP, are introduced without explaining the connection. State your policy position precisely and develop each main reason with a clear explanation and a directly relevant example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph supporting free provision, and a contrasting paragraph explaining possible disadvantages. “Firstly” and “In contrast” help signal the shift between these arguments. However, progression within the paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow because several points are placed together without clear links. For example, the discussion moves from water shortages to household costs and then to a survey, while the second paragraph shifts from population growth to company waste and GDP. Some transitions, such as “But having water supply…” and “So it will be…,” do not make the relationship between ideas precise. Group related points, use clearer references, and make the conclusion explicitly connect the two sides to your final position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “basic human right,” “water supply,” “population,” “industrial companies,” and “monitoring.” These choices make the subject clear, and phrases such as “hand to mouth” show an effort to use idiomatic language. However, several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “over the moon” does not fit the intended meaning of relief, “grasps almost 1 part” is unclear, and “at a risky level” is not an appropriate collocation for water use. Spelling errors such as “shoould,” “empolyer's,” and “challanges” also reduce control. Prefer direct, accurate wording and check spelling and collocations before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You use both simple statements and some attempts at longer structures, including “If the water supply will get free of charge…” and the sentence beginning “Because there are some areas…”. However, complex sentences are often faulty, and errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries recur. Examples include “it has significant role,” “There are lack of water supply,” and “the population in increasing.” The conditional “If the water supply will get…” also needs a more accurate verb pattern. Several sentences run together without spaces or appropriate punctuation, making the argument harder to read. Practise building accurate sentences with one main clause and a clearly connected subordinate clause, then proofread for agreement, articles, and punctuation.
