Student answer (Band 5.5)

Access to clean water is a basic human right according to menifesto of WHO. If we read the settlement history of different communities at specific area, the main reason is water supply. Unfortunately, large number of world population still has no access to clean water. In Pakistan where we live majority of population has no facility of clean water.

Big cities have no clean and fresh water supply . Industrilisation has lowered the quality of clean water.

Access to water, free health and justice are basic human rights . It has been seventy years since ,we get freedom. But people are deprived of basic needs. Government should give free water supply to homes.

Because of lack of clean water, every year large number of people admitted to hospital due to gestro related issues. People are getting abdominal diseases and liver issues daily. Just take a example of Faisalabad city , which is the third largest city of Pakistan . Generates large ammount of tax from business activites. Lack proper sewerage lines and clean water supply to homes. Consequently, liver diseases are rapidly growing among residents of the city.

There is mafia in the city which is the benificiary of this whole situation, they sell clean water cans to people and poor people cant afford it. So this makes discrimination among society.

It is the responsibility of state which collects tax ,to provide basic need to doorstep.

In my opinion , if government supply clean water to homes then every person can have access to clean water. Then we can prevent them from diseases and can lower the health budget expenditure.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your response gives a clear position in favour of free household water, especially in “Government should give free water supply to homes” and the concluding recommendation. You support this view with relevant points about water-related illness, affordability, and the state’s responsibility, including the example of Faisalabad. This addresses the task, but some parts are developed more fully than others: the health consequences and water-selling “mafia” receive explanation, while the opening reference to settlement history and the claim about tax revenue are not clearly connected to why water should be free. To strengthen the argument, explain how free provision could be funded and distinguish free access to a basic amount from unlimited use. The response meets the stated length requirement; nine words copied from the task prompt were not counted.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has an overall progression from the importance of water, to local problems and their consequences, and finally to the government’s responsibility. The Faisalabad example also gives the discussion a concrete focus. However, the organisation is weakened by several very short paragraphs and abrupt transitions, such as moving from the general human-rights claim to “It has been seventy years since…” without explaining the connection. Some links are mechanical or unclear, including the opening “Because of lack of clean water” and “So this makes discrimination.” Group related points into fuller paragraphs and use clearer transitions to show how each example supports your position. Make references explicit—for example, clarify what “this whole situation” refers to—so the reader can follow the argument more smoothly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “basic human rights,” “clean water supply,” “sewerage lines,” “abdominal diseases,” and “health budget expenditure.” These choices help communicate the subject and show some range beyond everyday language. However, spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural combinations are noticeable, for example “menifesto,” “Industrilisation,” “gestro related,” and “large ammount of tax.” Phrases such as “free health and justice” and “water cans” are also unclear or imprecise in context. Aim for accurate collocations and more exact wording: for instance, describe the health effects as “gastrointestinal illnesses” and say that businesses “generate substantial tax revenue.” Proofreading spelling and checking word combinations would make your meaning more consistently clear.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and more complex structures, including the conditional “if government supply clean water… then every person can have access” and the result clause beginning “Consequently.” This shows some variety, but control is inconsistent. Examples include “Government should give” where an article is needed, “if government supply” where the verb form does not agree with the subject, and “Lack proper sewerage lines and clean water supply to homes,” which is not a complete sentence. There are also errors in sentence boundaries and punctuation, such as the full stop before “Generates” and commas placed awkwardly around “since” and “to provide.” Practise complete sentence structures, subject–verb agreement, articles, and punctuation, then proofread each sentence for a clear subject and verb.
