Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 185 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, as the arguments are presented in a fragmented manner. While you clearly state your position in favor of free water, the supporting points—such as government responsibility and the impact of water scarcity—are underdeveloped and lack the necessary depth for an academic essay. To improve, you must expand on your reasoning with more detailed explanations and ensure you meet the length requirement to allow for a full exploration of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay lacks a clear logical progression. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the transitions between ideas are abrupt and often confusing. Cohesive devices are either missing or used incorrectly, such as the repetitive use of 'Therefore' and 'This is'. The conclusion is particularly problematic, as it is grammatically incoherent and fails to summarize the main points effectively. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in addition') and ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that connects to the overall argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is quite limited and often inaccurate, which hinders the clarity of your message. Phrases like 'freedom norm in person' and 'anomaly' are used incorrectly in context. There is also a reliance on basic, repetitive words. To achieve a higher band score, you need to move beyond simple vocabulary and attempt to use more precise, academic terminology related to the topic, such as 'public utility', 'socio-economic impact', or 'resource management'. Improving your word choice will help you express your ideas with greater precision and sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. Issues include incorrect verb forms ('that own buy people'), missing articles, and fragmented sentence structures. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing and capitalization. The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Once you have a solid foundation, try to incorporate more complex sentence structures like relative clauses or conditional sentences to demonstrate greater control.
