Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is widely argued that clean water is a fundamental human right, and for this reason ,it should be supplied for all households free of cost .In my opinion while basic water needs should be supported by government providing unlimited free water to every every home could lead to serious problem like waste. On the other hand clean water is essential for human survival and daily living.Without safe drinking water people are waith high risk of catching dangerous diseases like chorela pr typhoid. In many developing countries poor famiies spend a large portion of the income just buying clean water or thy are forced to dirty river water Governments proved a free basic amount of water to every house hold it would improve public health and reduce poverty significantly. On the other han supplying completely free water without any limits or majr issues. When something is free people often do not value and waste it easily For example people might leaave taps running

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 158 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, as the arguments regarding the provision of free water are left underdeveloped and the conclusion is missing. While you have identified a clear position and addressed the prompt, the lack of depth and the incomplete nature of the essay mean that the task is only partially addressed. To improve, you must expand your arguments with more detailed explanations and specific examples, ensuring you reach the required length to fully explore the complexities of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay shows some attempt at logical organization, with a clear introduction and a transition to a counter-argument. However, the paragraphing is inconsistent and the flow is interrupted by the abrupt ending. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the other hand' and 'For example', but they are sometimes used mechanically or with punctuation errors. The progression of ideas is hindered by the brevity of the response. To improve, ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that ideas are linked more fluidly using a wider range of cohesive devices, while also ensuring the essay is structured with a proper introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, but it is somewhat repetitive and lacks the range required for higher bands. There are several spelling errors, such as 'chorela' (cholera), 'typhoid' (typhoid), 'famiies' (families), and 'leaave' (leave). Additionally, some word choices are imprecise, such as 'waith high risk' instead of 'at high risk'. To improve, focus on expanding your vocabulary related to social issues and government policy, and pay closer attention to spelling and accurate word formation. Using more precise collocations will help convey your ideas more effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally impede readability. Examples include missing articles ('the income', 'the dirty river water'), incorrect verb forms ('Governments proved' instead of 'If governments provided'), and punctuation issues, such as missing spaces after commas and periods. The sentence structure is often fragmented. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Proofreading for punctuation and basic grammatical slips will also significantly enhance the clarity of your writing.
