Student answer (Band 7.0)

We may come across many such cases where people of the villages are not able to access clean water. People living in big or modern usually gets a very good access to clean water but access to clean water is a basic human right and every home should have a water supply that is provided free of charge. I agree that water is a human right and everyone should get water supply for free.

Firstly, water supply nowadays have become costlier making it almost impossible to be accessed by poor people. Poor people usually drink water directly from the tap. As tap water contains germs and other bacteria it affects the one who drink it. Even if they avoid drinking tap water and order water tanks but water tanks are usually so costly that poor people might not able to afford it. For instance, a village near Gujarat of India had so much water shortage and they ran out of water supplies. Due to less rainfall natural sources were also out of water thus people over there couldn't access water. They even didn't buy water tanks as due to less rainfall an inflation in price of water tanks were marked. Thus, people didn't get water and it ended up in taking life of 2-3 innocent people.

Secondly, the process of cleaning water has become too expensive. For instance, RO plants which are the machines to clean water are too expensive ranging between 7-8k that a person might think if getting one or not. While clean water is a basic human right it is considered as a rare thing. People go through a lot of diseases as the water they drink or use in cooking are not clean. Even the bore water might have a lot of germs which might not be good for one's health.

Alot of people might say that clean water should be charged as money goes into the process of cleaning it but water being a natural resource and a basic for survival it should be provided for free. People avoid spending penny on water thinking clean water don't matter but it matters a lot.

Thus, i agree that clean water is a basic human right and every home should have a water supply that is provided free of charge. Thus, a water supply at every home will make a lot of difference and thus save a lot of lives. Additionally, it will make the future much brighter and healthy.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments are relevant, particularly the focus on the financial burden of water access. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive, and the examples, while illustrative, could be more effectively integrated to support the central argument. The conclusion reinforces the position well, but the overall depth of the analysis is limited by a tendency to over-generalise about the causes of water scarcity. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph introduces a distinct, well-supported point rather than restating the same premise.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organised with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Thus' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and there is occasional awkwardness in the flow between sentences, such as the transition between the discussion of RO plants and the general health impacts. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and better referencing to avoid repetitive sentence structures.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'inflation in price' and 'natural resource', but there are also instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'getting one or not' instead of 'purchasing one'. Some phrasing is slightly unnatural, such as 'the one who drink it'. While the range is sufficient to convey meaning, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score. Improving collocation and avoiding informal phrasing would enhance the lexical quality.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'water supply have become', 'people... gets') and article usage (e.g., 'in big or modern', 'in taking life'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some run-on sentences and missing commas that affect readability. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb consistency and refining complex sentence construction would significantly improve the accuracy of the writing.
