Student answer (Band 7.0)
Water is a very essential part of human lives. As it is a basic human right which should be provided to every individual, free access to water supply for general public should be normalised. I strongly agree that water should be cost free for all the public and this essay will provide the reasons supporting my point of view.
To begin with, a lot of health concerns are due to contaminated water, which is a big threat to the well- being of people. By giving cost free water supply to the society will automatically lessen the possibilities of many diseases, and will also improve the quality of life. In addition to this, people with a better lifestyle will not require hospital facilities that much and will contribute to the betterment of the world.
In addition to this, eight litres of water is a basic need of every human being, and it will cost so much of money for people just to get their basic right and a large number of people would not be able to afford water supply. This will lead to dehydration as a large number of our population is below the line of middle class. To end with, humans need an excessive amount of pure water for bath, cleaning utensils, washing cloths and many other purposes, so charging money for all these needs is not a wise decision. This will make poor become more poorer.
To conclude with, free water supply should be non-negotiable, and top priority of everyone as it is very necessary for a healthy lifestyle. Water plays an unavoidable role in our lives, whether for drinking purposes or other necessities of life. That’s why I strongly believe that costing money for money would be a huge injustice for all the population.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have clearly stated your position in the introduction and maintained it throughout the essay. You address the prompt by providing reasons related to health and economic accessibility. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the claim that 'eight litres of water is a basic need' is a specific point that could have been better supported with more nuanced economic or social arguments. While you address the task, the arguments remain somewhat general and could benefit from more depth to reach a higher band. Overall, you have fulfilled the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'To begin with,' 'In addition to this,' and 'To conclude with' to signal the progression of your ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the jump from health concerns to the specific volume of water needed in the second body paragraph is slightly abrupt. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the central topic of each paragraph is generally clear.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'contaminated,' 'dehydration,' and 'non-negotiable.' However, there are some instances of repetitive or imprecise word choices, such as 'costing money for money' in the conclusion, which is awkward. You also use 'make poor become more poorer,' which is grammatically incorrect and lexically redundant. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, but it lacks the sophistication required for a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'free access to water supply for general public should be normalised' (missing articles) and 'make poor become more poorer' (incorrect comparative structure). There are also minor punctuation and phrasing issues throughout. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on article usage and comparative structures will help improve your accuracy.
