Student answer (Band 7.0)

It is essential for humans to have biological fundamentals like foods for nutrients and getting enough sleep. The most important human need is water without any doubt or argument as it is impossible for human to survive without access to water.

In my opinion, I disagree to an extent with this statement due to the fact that although we implement water supply to all households, the people who actually need clean water supplies cannot get benefit from it. Majority of the citizens with a place to live, no matter if it's small or big, they are very likely to be able to afford their basic needs like water, foods, clothings, and transports. However, the people who really require the supply and support is the unprivileged, lower class such as the homeless. Implementation of water supply in houses won't matter to homeless people, it will only be helpful to those who are already able to get access to clean water. As a result, even though the water is provided free of charge, there are still people suffering for water, which means it doesn't change the basic problem. Therefore, one of the main reasons I disagree to this statement is because the number of people who needs access to water will still remain similar, as it only gives advantage to certain group of people.

Another reason I disagree to this statement is because of the financial problems it could have. Every household being provided with free water supply indicates that the government will be the one paying all the bills instead. This could be hardly managed or even impossible for some countries, as they would have to take care for distilling the water as well as making sure that all houses get enough water. Consequently, this may lead to lack of budget going into other purposes which can benefit the public more, such as healthcare systems. Moreover, for the companies providing clean drinking water would face severe issues as there would be huge decrease in their sales, affecting private businesses.

Therefore, another reason I disagree is because of the possible financial problems.

In conclusion, although providing access to free water supply in each house may have positive impact that some people won't have to worry about spending money on water, there are other disadvantages and problems that outweighs the advantages.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The response addresses the prompt clearly and maintains a consistent position throughout. You have provided two main arguments: the inefficiency of the policy in reaching the most vulnerable and the potential negative economic consequences. These points are relevant and logically developed. However, the development could be more sophisticated; for instance, the argument regarding the homeless could be strengthened by discussing alternative solutions or the role of government subsidies. While you have addressed the task well, the depth of analysis is slightly limited, which prevents it from reaching the highest band. Overall, you have successfully communicated your viewpoint and supported it with logical reasoning.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph focuses on a central theme, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. You use cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Consequently', and 'Moreover' to link ideas. While the progression is generally smooth, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'Therefore' and 'Another reason'. To improve, try to vary your linking phrases and ensure that the relationship between sentences is always explicit. Paragraphing is used appropriately, contributing to the overall coherence of the piece.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'unprivileged', 'distilling', and 'healthcare systems'. However, there are some instances of slightly unnatural word choices or minor errors, such as 'biological fundamentals' instead of 'basic biological needs' and 'clothings' (which is an uncountable noun). To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding minor errors in word form. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning effectively, but it lacks the sophistication and flexibility required for a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures throughout the essay. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'the people who really require the supply and support is the unprivileged' (subject-verb agreement) and 'the number of people who needs' (subject-verb agreement). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and article usage issues. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and proofreading for small errors in articles and pluralization to ensure your complex sentences are error-free.
