Student answer (Band 6.5)

Clean water is essential for human beings. So, every household should have access to the fresh water , which should be provided at the free of cost.I agree with this, as the humans cannot survive without access to the clean water, so it should be provided at free of cost.

Many places around the world do not have access to fresh water due to the climate conditions and temperature. Places such as deserts and semi arid areas do not have access ground water resources and rivers, which leads to water scarcity. Therefore, people from these regions depend from external water sources such as water tankers and wells located in another regions. This provides opportunity to private players to sell fresh water at higher prices. In addition to that, a few places on the earth, where do not have access to safe drinking water. Due to activities such as mining of natural resources and industrial waste leads water contamination in rivers and ground water.

In order to provide fresh water to every household at the free of cost , government need to take necessary steps such as connecting every household with fresh water sources. So, it helps to reduce health problems of people due to drinking of unsafe water. As the most people face health issues due to water contamination. In addition to that, governments should improve their infrastructure such as building desalination plants. Most of countries do not have access to freshwater from rivers and other sources. By constructing desalination plant, which can convert the salt water to fresh water. It provides to opportunity to supply fresh water to these regions at free of cost.

Finally, I believe that water is the basic human right, everyone should have access to water without any discrimination. Therefore should build enough infrastructure to provide to fresh water to its citizens at free of cost

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of free water access. The ideas are relevant, discussing climate-related scarcity and the role of government infrastructure. However, the development is somewhat repetitive, particularly regarding the 'free of cost' argument. While the main points are clear, the supporting arguments could be more nuanced by exploring potential economic drawbacks or the feasibility of such a policy to reach a higher band. The conclusion is a bit abrupt and lacks a summary of the main points, which limits the depth of the response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In addition to that' and 'Therefore', though some transitions feel mechanical or repetitive. The progression of ideas is generally logical, moving from the problem of scarcity to the proposed government solutions. However, there are instances where the flow is slightly hindered by awkward phrasing, such as 'This provides opportunity to private players'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion, which helps the reader follow the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their ideas clearly. There is some attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'desalination plants', 'water scarcity', and 'contamination'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are recurring errors in collocation and word choice, such as 'at the free of cost' (should be 'free of charge' or 'at no cost') and 'depend from' (should be 'depend on'). These errors do not impede communication, but they prevent the essay from reaching a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the free of cost', 'the humans'), prepositions, and sentence fragments (e.g., 'Due to activities such as mining... leads water contamination'). Some sentences are poorly constructed, such as 'Most of countries do not have access to freshwater from rivers and other sources.' These errors are noticeable and occur throughout the text, though they rarely prevent the reader from understanding the intended message.
