Student answer (Band 7.0)

Water is one of the basic life necessities for the survival of a human being as it is the basic component of the human body constituting 70% of it. Access to filtered water is a basic human right, and I agree that every house should be equipped with a free of cost water supply.

The mankind survival can become endangered if the water supply is not properly delivered to humans. As a human, every person irrespective of their social status must be provided with the access to free and filtered water everywhere especially their residences. Those who are not capable of paying their bills will at least be able to enjoy free water this way and would not die of thirst as the human body cannot stay without water even for three days and can cause fatal condition like hypovolemic shock. To prevent this kind of problems every house must be supplied with enough free of cost water supply.

Additionally, the industries in the whole world have made it a common business into making people think that the water coming through the taps is not suitable and must not be ingested as it can cause many diseases. This leads to a toll on the financial status of many low-income households and they have to pay for a basic necessity as water to survive. In countries like Africa, the average water for every individual is really low compared to other world countries and they are in dire need of these systems to overcome the shortage and scarcity of water in those areas.

In conclusion, the basic need for survival is water. Therefore, it must be provided and given access to everyone in their households without them having to pay any charges or bills for it.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses the prompt clearly and maintains a consistent position throughout. You have provided relevant arguments, such as the humanitarian aspect of water access and the financial burden on low-income households. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the point about industries creating a false perception of tap water is interesting but could be more thoroughly explained to support your argument for free water. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph contains a fully developed example or a more detailed explanation of the implications of your argument, rather than just stating the points.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use some cohesive devices effectively, such as 'Additionally' and 'In conclusion'. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions could be smoother. For example, the jump from the health risks of dehydration to the industry's role in the third paragraph feels slightly abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would help the progression of ideas feel more natural and sophisticated.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'constituting', 'ingested', and 'scarcity' appropriately. There are some minor issues with collocation and word choice, such as 'The mankind survival' (should be 'Human survival') and 'made it a common business into making people think' (which is slightly awkward). To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding wordy phrases. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, incorporating more academic, less common lexical items would help elevate your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'can cause fatal condition' (missing an article: 'a fatal condition') and 'the human body cannot stay without water' (should be 'cannot survive without water'). Additionally, there are some minor punctuation and phrasing issues. To achieve a higher band, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences will also demonstrate better control over your grammatical range.
