Student answer (Band 6.5)
I agree that access to clean water is a basic human right that every individual alive should have access to and nobody should be deprived of it. Water is an everyday necessity, almost important like air, whatever is done in a day, you need water from cooking, brushing teeth to showering , clean water is need. The problem is that water is paid for and also get cuts if their payment is delayed, but what do someone do when they are deprived of water and have no other means to get clean, they look to alternative source, which is not aways clean .
Basic human amenities should not be paid for, there are many citizens who don't have access to clean water because it is paid and they can't access it, so they are force to source water from other means, which are potentially dangerous to their health and lead to sickness like cancer. For example in Nigeria, certain states don't access to clean water, so naturally they get water from the streams and rivers to drink and cook but the problems with this kind of water is that the people living in that village also use that same river to wash their clothes or shower. All this contaminate the water that they drink.
In some countries with industries that deal with manufacturing, they might dump waste or dispose of their waste wrongly that might end up contaminating the water, and when people drink the contaminated, it affects their health in ways that they can come back from.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed the prompt by stating your position clearly in the introduction. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. While you provide a relevant example regarding Nigeria, the argument lacks depth regarding the economic or logistical implications of providing free water, which is a key part of the prompt's premise. The response is somewhat repetitive in its focus on the dangers of contaminated water rather than exploring the broader debate of 'free' versus 'subsidized' or 'managed' water supply. To improve, ensure you balance your personal opinion with a more thorough exploration of the counter-arguments or the practical challenges involved in such a policy.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite limited and sometimes mechanical. For example, the transition between the second and third paragraphs is abrupt. You rely heavily on simple sentence structures, which makes the flow feel a bit disjointed. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of linking words and phrases (e.g., 'consequently,' 'furthermore,' 'on the other hand') to connect your ideas more fluidly and improve the logical progression of your argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your main points. However, there is a lack of variety and precision. You use basic terms like 'get' and 'things' repeatedly. There are also some issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'get cuts' (referring to water supply) and 'come back from' (referring to health issues). To improve, focus on using more academic collocations and precise terminology related to public health and infrastructure, which would demonstrate a more sophisticated command of the language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'what do someone do'), missing articles, and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'All this contaminate the water'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to affect the overall clarity of your writing. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and sentence structure will significantly improve your score.
