Student answer (Band 7.0)

Nowadays, access to clean water is becoming a problem in many developing and under developed nations due to many reasons like poor infrastructure, corruption and lack of clean water. In my opinion access to clean water for every household should be free of charge and be given to everyone without any discrimination. In this essay i will discuss the reasons behind my opinion and explain them.

Providing clean water to everyone for free will ensure that below poverty people can have clean water to drink, cook, bath and wash their clothes safely in their houses. This will ensure in stopping pollution in rivers and lakes because if they do not have clean water in their houses they will naturally look for nearby clean waterbodies and start using them. By providing them with clean water for free, governments can reduce massive amount of water and soil pollution.

Furtheremore, it will reduce all types of diseases come with contaminated water like chloera, thyphoid and many more. This will result less people getting sick and will largely benfit society because less people sick means more people to work and contribute to society and government can spend less on these treatments and use the money where it need the most. Moreover, this will increase the country's growth economically which negates the cost of providing clean water for free.

In conclusion, access to clean water is a basic human right for all and governments should enforce this right for everyone without any prejudice because this will in turn benifit the country in many ways. So, I think all governments around the world should provide clean water to all of this people for free.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses the prompt clearly and maintains a consistent position throughout. You have identified two main arguments: the humanitarian benefit for impoverished populations and the public health/economic advantages. These ideas are relevant and generally well-developed. However, the essay could be improved by acknowledging the potential counter-arguments or complexities of providing free water, such as the financial burden on governments or the risk of water wastage, which would demonstrate a more nuanced approach. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, and your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel a bit repetitive. Additionally, the referencing in the final paragraph ('all of this people') is slightly awkward, which affects the smoothness of the text. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would help elevate this score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your ideas clearly, such as 'infrastructure', 'corruption', 'discrimination', and 'contaminated'. However, there are several spelling errors ('chloera', 'thyphoid', 'benfit') and minor word-choice issues ('below poverty people' instead of 'people living below the poverty line'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a wider range of precise collocations. To reach a higher band, focus on using more sophisticated vocabulary and ensuring accurate spelling of key terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'diseases come with' (should be 'that come with'), 'result less people getting sick' (should be 'result in fewer people getting sick'), and 'where it need the most' (should be 'where it is needed most'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the control over complex structures is inconsistent. Increasing the frequency of error-free sentences and focusing on subject-verb agreement will help improve your score in this area.
