Student answer (Band 6.5)

The basic necessity to human life is clean water. Therefore each house must have water supply without any price.

I agree with the clean water as a basic need for all people. The human body is made of 75% water. Water regulates most of the body functioning. It monitors our blood pressure, heart rate, digestion and much more. With the increase in pollution in air and water most water reservoir are not been well kept and in bad conditions. Hence water coming to houses are not safe. Clean water that is well treated intially before being pumped in residential houses may have great benifits to human life.

Secondly, water should also be freely accessible in public places with no added cost. The use of modern technology like the water that passes through UV rays (ultraviolet) can also make drinking water safe to drink without the need of it being boiled again at home. Furthermore, most rural areas water is scarce, specially during summer or drought. Where local citizens find it difficult to get water. There should be proper arrangement made so people

get clean water at no additional cost.

In the year between 1900 to 2000 there was abundance in rainfall where water filled most lakes, dams and even reservoirs were full. this was continued over a period of time. However in the year 2020 to 2025 there has been a decline in rainwater and to solve the issue the remidy used was water was given for a couple of hours approximately for 2hours. This created a positive impact on saving water even though when the scarcity of water continued. Homes used water wisely and they were content with the water with no charges.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of free water. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the biological necessity of water is mentioned, the argument regarding the economic feasibility of 'free' water is underdeveloped. The essay relies on personal assertions rather than exploring the broader implications of the proposal. The final paragraph introduces a narrative about rainfall and water rationing that is somewhat tangential and does not directly support the core argument about why water should be free of charge. To improve, focus on providing more robust, logical arguments regarding the societal or economic benefits of universal free water access.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the logical progression between ideas is sometimes disjointed. For example, the transition from the biological importance of water to the mention of UV technology is abrupt. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Secondly' and 'Furthermore', but they are sometimes used mechanically. Additionally, the final paragraph lacks a clear link to the previous points, making the overall flow feel fragmented. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance the logical flow of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and minor errors, such as 'without any price' instead of 'free of charge' and 'intially' (spelling error). Phrases like 'well kept' and 'bad conditions' are quite simple. To reach a higher band, you should aim to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and topic-specific vocabulary related to public policy, economics, or infrastructure, rather than relying on basic descriptive language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'most water reservoir are not been well kept' (subject-verb agreement and tense error) and 'water coming to houses are not safe' (subject-verb agreement). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with sentence fragments and run-on sentences. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors limits the score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and ensuring each sentence has a clear subject and verb would significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
