Student answer (Band 6.5)

Human have an access to fresh water is a basic human right. That is why it should be free for every home has sparked considerable discussion in recent years. In my opinion, i largely disagree with the statement. This essay will explain why.

The total 71% of area of earth has covered by water and rest is by land. From those 71% water only 1 to 0.5 percent of water is usable fresh water, so people should have to value it. If it is availabe without money people can not understand the value of water and the wastage of water will increase. In addition, one of the basic need of human is food for that, an agriculture sector require huge amount of water for the crops, and for this purpose people should have to use water as per need.

The fresh water we get from the lakes, reservoir is not safe for drinking, it needs to treat so government require a money for to build a water treatment plant. Moreover, in India rain occures for only 4 months and for rest of the months people need to store the water for a numerous uses, so reservoir are the best option for storage of water which require good amount of money. The government can use a money for such projects which they charged from people.

In conclusion, i am not in favour of satement because, Free access for human to clean water is not a good proper way they should have to charge by money with this way they will understand the value of it, and for numerous purposes government need money such as treating, storing it can cover by this money.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout, arguing against free water supply. The ideas are relevant, focusing on the scarcity of water and the necessity of government funding for infrastructure. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding agriculture is mentioned but not fully explored in relation to the 'free' aspect. The explanation of why charging for water encourages conservation is logical but could be supported with more depth. Overall, the response covers all parts of the task, but the supporting arguments remain at a somewhat superficial level, which is characteristic of a Band 6.0 performance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. There is a logical progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In addition', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. Referencing is generally clear, although some sentence structures are awkward, which occasionally disrupts the flow. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. To improve, you should focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that sentences within paragraphs are more tightly connected to enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their opinion clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'water treatment plant', 'agriculture sector', and 'reservoir'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'government require a money' and 'charge by money'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of the argument. To reach a higher band, you should focus on learning collocations (e.g., 'levy a charge' instead of 'charge by money') and improving the accuracy of word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Human have an access'), article usage (e.g., 'the total 71% of area of earth'), and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'government require a money for to build'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and capitalization of 'i'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they occur frequently enough to keep the score in the 5.5 to 6.0 range. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for small errors would be beneficial.
