Student answer (Band 7.0)
It is widely believed that access to clean water should be financially and ethically obligated by the government to provide basic life supplies for maintaining human lives and human rights.
In my opinion, I completely agree with this view because clean water shouldn’t be a burden for people’s households and for people who live with poverty, they wouldn’t be able to afford this basic life necessity and couldn’t stabilize their health.
First and foremost, clean water is absolutely indispensable for sustaining bodily function. Without it, individuals would be unable to survive and keep themselves healthy. For instance, people usually need water to prepare their meals and they usually need to consume clean water up to 2 liters per day for sustaining their well-being. Therefore, clean water should be provided by the state and not be a financial burden on individuals across the country. Furthermore, individuals living in poverty are particularly vulnerable to water insecurity. Without free access to clean water, low-income households may be forced to consume contaminated water, leading to severe infections and waterborne diseases, for instance, such as diarrhea, giardiasis and other severe illnesses caused by pathogenic living organisms. Therefore, governments should treat clean water as public welfare services rather than a social burden.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that clean water should be freely provided because clean water is essential for sustaining people’s life and some households with low-income are lack of clean water for consuming leading to risky severe diseases. Government must therefore treat water as a public welfare service to ensure equal access to all of the citizens.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. You have provided relevant arguments regarding health and poverty to support your agreement with the statement. The ideas are extended and supported, particularly in the second paragraph where you discuss the consequences of contaminated water. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are fully developed; for example, you could briefly address the counter-argument regarding the economic feasibility for governments to provide free water to strengthen your position further. Overall, the response is well-focused and directly answers the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader through your argument. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there is occasional repetition of phrases like 'clean water' and 'for instance'. To improve, try to use a wider variety of referencing pronouns or synonyms to link ideas more fluidly. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the progression of ideas is clear throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'indispensable', 'vulnerable', 'water insecurity', and 'pathogenic'. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'financially and ethically obligated by the government' and 'are lack of clean water'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your expression. To achieve a higher score, focus on using more natural collocations and ensuring that your word forms are grammatically correct in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'for people who live with poverty, they wouldn’t be able to afford' (a comma splice/redundant subject) and 'are lack of clean water' (should be 'lack' or 'are lacking'). Despite these errors, the meaning is generally easy to follow. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and avoiding redundant pronouns. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences will help move your score into the 7.0 range.
