Student answer (Band 6.5)

I strongly agree with it, but there are still several areas where there is no access to clean water. It's a basic necessity of life, and every citizen has the right to drink clean water, which is safer and healthy for their body. The government should take this step immediately, and they should provide every home with a water supply system free of cost. In my vision, it's their duty to provide their people with facilities that are essential for living. Drinking clean water is beneficial for our health, and its usage removes any doubt of germs or bacteria around the house. In addition, it's also good for kids to be around a safer environment. This is something which should get a lot of attention, as it's vital for a healthy life.

Once my friend told me that they were consuming dirty water for approximately a month, and no one from his house knew. After some time, they all got ill and suffered from more than one disease. Resultantly, they were admitted to the hospital and got treated, which was also quite an expense for them. To encounter these problems, a clean water system is really handy for every house so the people can keep themselves away from such suffering.

That's why I do think it's a great deal to have a system in each house, that too free of charge. The head of the state should take this idea into consideration, as it's helpful for every citizen. Health should be the first priority, and there should be no compromise on it.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of free water supply. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you provide a personal anecdote about a friend to support your argument, the essay lacks a broader discussion on the economic or logistical implications of providing free water, which would have strengthened the argument. The points made are relevant, but they remain somewhat superficial. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the 'why' and 'how' of your arguments, perhaps by discussing the role of government funding or the long-term public health benefits in more detail.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into three distinct paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'Resultantly', and 'That's why', which assist in linking ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical. For instance, the transition between the general argument in the first paragraph and the personal anecdote in the second could be smoother. Additionally, some referencing is slightly repetitive. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You use a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your meaning clearly, such as 'basic necessity', 'essential for living', and 'priority'. However, the range is somewhat limited and relies on fairly common words. There are some minor issues with collocation and word choice, such as 'safer and healthy' (should be 'safer and healthier') and 'it's a great deal' (which is informal). To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to public policy and health, and focus on using collocations more accurately to sound more natural and sophisticated.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. For example, 'no one from his house knew' is slightly awkward, and 'suffered from more than one disease' could be phrased more naturally. There are also minor punctuation and article errors, such as 'the head of the state' (should be 'the head of state'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and refining your use of articles and prepositions.
