Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this current era of scientific and technological progress, we find ourselves in the modern world, where clean water is the most basic human right for everyone. It is crucial that different people have different perceptions and level of intelligence regarding it.

From my perspective, there are various viewpoints to consider. First and foremost, clean water is very crucial for everyone in order to protect the families and children from any kind of serious illness like hepatitis or any kind of lethal diseases. Clean water not only protect from the diseases but also help us to keep the environment clean and healthy.

Furthermore, clean water is very useful not only for drinking but also for the cultivation of different kind of crops according to their season. Clean water plays a vital role in the healthy life style of every human. It is really necessary and part of the modern world that Government should take some beneficial steps and implant water plants in the every corner of the country for the supply of pure and clean water to the people. Government and other higher authorities have not only paid attention to this matter but also have taken some serious steps and also have made some serious rules and regulations that ensure positive outcomes to keep the water clean.

Taking these points into consideration, from a personal point of view, I am inclined to believe that clean water is the the basic necessity of all the livings of life, families plants and animals and all the human beings.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the topic of clean water as a human right, but it fails to directly engage with the specific prompt regarding whether it should be provided 'free of charge'. While you discuss the importance of clean water, you do not clearly state or maintain a position on the economic aspect of the prompt. The ideas are somewhat repetitive, focusing on the health benefits of water rather than the feasibility or necessity of a free supply. To improve, ensure you explicitly address the 'free of charge' component and provide a clear, consistent argument throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the progression of ideas is somewhat mechanical. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Furthermore' and 'First and foremost', but the logical flow between sentences is occasionally disjointed. For example, the transition from discussing health to government responsibilities is abrupt. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that directly supports your overall position.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on repetitive phrasing, such as 'clean water' and 'different kind of', which limits the sophistication of your writing. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'implant water plants' (a more natural choice would be 'install water treatment facilities'). To improve, try to incorporate more academic vocabulary related to public policy and resource management, and avoid repeating the same key terms throughout the text.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'protect the families' (should be 'protect families'), 'in the every corner' (should be 'in every corner'), and 'all the livings of life'. Punctuation is mostly functional, but there are minor errors in article usage and pluralisation. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, and try to vary your sentence structures by using more subordinate clauses to demonstrate greater control.
