Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to address the prompt provided. The prompt asks about the right to free water, but the essay discusses the merits of a 'gap year' for students. This is a complete misunderstanding of the task. Furthermore, the response is significantly under the 250-word minimum, which limits the development of ideas. Because the content is entirely off-topic, it cannot be assessed as a successful response to the specific question asked. To improve, you must carefully read the prompt to ensure your arguments directly relate to the topic of water as a human right.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression is hindered by the fact that the content is irrelevant to the prompt. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with' and 'Furthermore', they are applied to an argument that does not address the task. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the abrupt ending suggests a lack of planning and control over the structure of the essay. To improve, focus on creating a clear introduction, body paragraphs that support a single thesis, and a conclusion that summarizes your main points.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'gape' instead of 'gap', 'lake of passion' instead of 'lack of passion', and 'higher student' instead of 'high school student'. These errors occasionally make the meaning difficult to follow. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas effectively. You should focus on learning collocations and practicing the correct spelling of common academic terms to improve your lexical range and accuracy.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The grammar is weak, with frequent errors that impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'graduate choose'), article usage (e.g., 'take an year'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or lack proper punctuation, such as 'spending a year working and travelling in different culture and diversities and environmental professional.' The lack of control over basic grammatical structures makes the writing difficult to read. You need to focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and prepositions.
