Student answer (Band 7.0)
Every individual human being has a fundamental right that they can have clean water. Consequently, it is often argued that every home should be given a water supply completely free of cost. I firmly disagree with this advise , as a free water supply not only increases financial burden on the government but also could lead to waste of natural resource.
Firstly, making a free access to water could bring other problems such as a financial burden on government. This is primarily because the government would be responsible for maintaining and providing installation of supply, and therefore, the government would end up compromising other parts of development in country. For instance, the government would reduce allocated budget for education and defence of the country, as the government has to make enough fundings available for water access to every house. Therefore, a funded water source would bring financial strain on the government.
Secondly, a free cost of water could increase waste of clean water on the planet. This is primarily because people would not think about preserving natural pure water, if it is unlimited and free of cost, and thus, they would waste clean water. For example, There exist only 3 percent of drinkable water on the planet, and therefore unnecessary water usage would be a complete waste. As a result, future generation would not have enough resource of pure water.
In conclution, I largely disagree with a funded water source provided to every house, as this would not only cause financial strain on the government but also cause the waste of natural sources for pure water on the planet.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have clearly stated your position in the introduction and maintained it throughout the essay. The two main body paragraphs provide relevant arguments regarding the financial burden on the government and the potential for water wastage. The ideas are extended with logical examples, such as the trade-off between water funding and other public services like education. To reach a higher band, ensure that you fully explore the counter-argument—perhaps by briefly acknowledging why some might argue for free water—before refuting it, which would add more depth to your critical analysis.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'consequently', 'firstly', 'secondly', and 'as a result' to guide the reader through your arguments. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive, particularly the frequent use of 'this is primarily because'. To improve, try varying your linking phrases and ensuring that the relationship between sentences is more fluid. Paragraphing is used effectively, and each paragraph has a clear central topic.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fundamental right', 'financial strain', and 'preserving natural pure water'. There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'advise' (should be 'advice') and 'funded water source' (which is slightly unnatural in this context). While you successfully convey your meaning, the vocabulary is generally functional rather than sophisticated. Incorporating more precise collocations and academic synonyms would help elevate your score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'making a free access' (should be 'providing free access'), 'waste of natural resource' (should be 'resources'), and 'in conclution' (spelling error). Additionally, there are some issues with article usage and pluralization. The majority of your sentences are understandable, but the frequency of these minor errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and article consistency.
