Student answer (Band 6.5)
Water usage hold a significant role in our day to day life.
Improves public health
Charging for excessive use prevents waste and helps maintain the water system.
It is often argued that availability of clean water is a basic human right. While some people support this view, others disagree. In the subsequent paragraph I will discuss my viewpoint on this.
To commence with, water is essential for daily life. Every person needs clean water for drinking, cooking, bathing, and maintaining hygiene. Without access to clean water, people's health and quality of life can deteriorate. To exemplify this, Without a safe water supply, people are more likely to suffer from diseases such as cholera and typhoid. Therefore, providing every home with access to clean water is crucial for protecting public health and ensuring a better quality of life.
In addition to this, Clean water Improves public health. It also reduces water-borne diseases, encourages proper hygiene and sanitation which gradually lower healthcare costs. For example, people will be less prone to water borne diseases. Although, communities with access to clean water experience fewer illnesses such as cholera and typhoid. Hence, it is evident that clean water improves public health.
However, the excessive usage of water majorly impacted the nation economic growth. As, supplying clean water requires significant financial investment. For an instance, Governments must spend money on water treatment plants, pipelines, maintenance, and employee salaries. Nevertheless, regular maintenance of water infrastructure requires substantial public funding.
In conclusion, although free access to water is basic human right as we use it in several ways with our daily basis. However, excessive use of water resources impact the financial status of our nation. Therefore, I believe water should be use with care and while following several guidance.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the human right aspect and the economic implications of free water. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The second and third paragraphs are repetitive, as both focus on the health benefits of clean water without adding distinct new arguments. The conclusion introduces the idea of 'guidance' for water usage, which was not previously discussed, making the argument feel slightly disjointed. To improve, ensure each body paragraph introduces a unique, well-supported point that directly contributes to your overall position.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay uses basic cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'In addition to this', and 'In conclusion'. While these help the flow, the logical progression is hindered by the repetition of ideas between the second and third paragraphs. Furthermore, the paragraphing is slightly disrupted by the inclusion of bullet-point-like phrases at the very beginning of the text, which do not belong in a formal essay. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the transition between the health benefits and the economic argument is abrupt.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express basic ideas clearly. There are some attempts at topic-specific vocabulary like 'sanitation', 'infrastructure', and 'financial investment'. However, there are instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'majorly impacted the nation economic growth' (should be 'economic growth of the nation') and 'use with care and while following several guidance' (should be 'guidelines'). The range is sufficient for a Band 6, but lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('water usage hold', 'water resources impact') and article usage ('the nation economic growth'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary capital letters in the middle of sentences (e.g., 'In addition to this, Clean water...'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic agreement and punctuation would significantly improve the clarity of the writing.
