Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is a point of debate whether every home should have a water supply provided that is free of cost. A significant chunk of community welcomes conception whereas the remaining members oppose the same. I entirely accept this phenomenon and explain why in this essay.

There are numerous arguments which go along with my personal perspective. First and most prominent lies in the fact that human beings should be extra careful with their decisions. This is everyone's right to drink clean water, and for other purposes also as cooking, bathing, and drinking. Nowadays, the number of factories rapidly increasing which lead to water pollution. As the residue of factory's wastage goes in the rivers and pollute the water, and that water goes in the tap. Moreover, after drinking that polluted water they get sick, and had severe diseases infections. However, the situation changed drastically after a couple of years.

In contrast, every individual has to take care of their own health. For instance, in our city, there was a charge on water supply, if you applied for fresh and clean water. So, many people do not agree to take supply because of fear of charge, and results in getting disease from polluted water. Hence, the government should take several steps to provide water supply free of charge so that everyone can take connection without fear of paying bill.

All the above discussed assertion led to the conclusion that it's a human right to access clean water. So, in my opinion, it would be wise enough to say that the water supply provided at every house should be free of cost.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The essay addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention pollution and health concerns, the arguments lack depth and specific evidence. For instance, the claim that 'the situation changed drastically after a couple of years' is vague and does not clearly support your argument. To improve, ensure that each paragraph focuses on a single, well-explained point with concrete examples. The conclusion restates your position, but the essay would benefit from a more nuanced exploration of the economic implications of 'free' water, which is a key part of the prompt's premise.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover', 'In contrast', and 'Hence' to link sentences. However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'All the above discussed assertion led to the conclusion'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the connection between factory waste and the reader's personal health is disjointed. Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer to their antecedents will help you achieve a higher band score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You use some basic phrasing, such as 'a significant chunk of community' and 'take connection'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'the number of factories rapidly increasing' (which lacks a verb) and 'had severe diseases infections'. To improve, focus on using more academic collocations and precise terminology. For example, instead of 'take connection', you could use 'access the municipal water supply'. Expanding your range of topic-specific vocabulary will significantly enhance your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include missing articles ('in the rivers', 'in the tap'), subject-verb agreement errors ('number of factories... are'), and awkward phrasing ('the residue of factory's wastage goes in the rivers'). Some sentences are fragmented or lack a main verb, such as 'Nowadays, the number of factories rapidly increasing'. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like article usage and verb tense consistency. Increasing your control over complex structures will also help.
