IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Access to clean water is a basic human right. Therefore every home should have a water supply that is provided free of charge.
Do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 7.0)
I strongly agree with the given statement 'Access to clean water is a basic human right'. Clean water is a staple in every home. Every home must be provided with clean water. However, I do not agree with the other statement that clean water must be provided without any charge.
Our earth is filled with 70% of water. But over 60% of that water is mostly ocean water which is salty and can not be used in our homes. Most of the clean water that we find are either from the rivers, lakes or ponds. Moreover, the river water or the water from the lakes or pond will not be useful to us as they might contain harmful bacteria which cannot be seen through the naked eye.
Secondly, Governments of all the countries in the world are taking an initiative to purify the salt water from the oceans to give clean water. For this, they use large machinery. In addition to this, The river water and water from the lakes and ponds also need through purification because of the bacteria. Therefore, providing clean water for free of cost might make the purification companies into loss. So, charging the minimum amount of money for clean water helps us and the government equally.
In conclusion, I disagree to the given statement taht every home should have a water supply that is provided for free of charge rather, charging a minimum amount helps the goverment to work hard as well as every hoome can be provided with clean water.
