Student answer (Band 7.0)
It is often debated that access to clean water is a basic human right. Thus, it should be provided to every home without any cost. This essay firmly agrees with this viewpoint for several reasons. The primary reason why I hold this viewpoint is that clean water prevents many diseases, such as kidney problems and cancer. Many individuals are dying because of a lack of clean water. This is because governments are not providing them with basic human rights, one of which is access to a water supply without any charge. For example, India and Kenya do not have access to clean water and their governments do not have sufficient funds, which causes damage to the health of individuals living there. Therefore, I firmly agree with this statement, as it is highly beneficial for the health of people. Moreover, another justification for supporting this viewpoint is that many people cannot afford the expense of the water supply. Although they want to drink clean water, they cannot afford it because of the poverty. Consequently, they have to use dirty water, which causes damage to their health. For instance, many people in Pakistan cannot afford the expense of clean water because of high poverty rate. Hence, this essay believes that providing access to a water supply without any charge is undoubtedly beneficial for the people, as it enables them to use clean water. To sum up, I completely agree with this viewpoint because it enables many people to have a clean water even though they can not afford it, and it also prevents harmful diseases, such as kidney problems and cancer.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The essay addresses the prompt clearly and maintains a consistent position throughout. The arguments regarding health benefits and economic accessibility are relevant and logically linked to the prompt. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive; for instance, the points about health and poverty are restated in similar terms across the body paragraphs. To reach a higher band, you should aim to extend your arguments with more nuanced analysis, perhaps by discussing the economic feasibility for governments or the potential downsides of free services, such as resource mismanagement. The examples provided are relevant but could be more detailed to fully support the claims made.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Consequently', and 'To sum up' to guide the reader. However, some of the transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother. For example, the repetition of 'this viewpoint' and 'this essay' makes the writing feel a bit formulaic. Improving the variety of your linking words and ensuring that referencing is more varied would enhance the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'justification', 'sufficient funds', and 'undoubtedly beneficial'. However, the vocabulary is somewhat repetitive, particularly the frequent use of 'clean water', 'water supply', and 'damage to their health'. There are also minor collocation issues, such as 'have a clean water' (should be 'have clean water'). To improve, try to incorporate more precise synonyms and academic collocations to avoid repeating the same phrases. Your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, but it lacks the flexibility and sophistication required for a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this level. While your meaning is always clear, there are recurring grammatical errors, such as 'because of the poverty' (should be 'because of poverty') and 'can not afford' (should be 'cannot'). Additionally, some sentences are slightly simplistic in their construction. To achieve a higher score, focus on reducing these minor errors and incorporating a wider variety of complex grammatical structures, such as conditional sentences or passive voice, to demonstrate greater control over your writing.
