Student answer (Band 6.5)

Clean water is an essential element in human lives, thus is it a basic right and should be provided free of charge. I completely agree with this statement. It is because, access to clean water is the most basic thing, a person should have for daily purposes and for that government should provide such facility. In this essay, we will discuss the reasons for providing clean water to everyone for free.

Basic human rights consists : food, clothes, shelter, education and finally clean water. Water is used in daily lives of human for drinking, cleaning, laundry, etc thus access to clean water is inevitable. For instance, studies shows, on average a person uses up to 500 - 800 liters of water per day. Thus, water is not only a basic requirement it is also an important survival element in our lives.

Government should be involve in providing clean water free of cost to every home. They can use the funds from tax payments and provide all homes with clean water for daily purposes. For example, plans and policies to analyze the water routes to each home and use of chemicals to purify the water from the water body can be implemented. Therefore, government has a crucial role as they can help provide equal water quantity to each home.

In conclusion, clean water is a basic human rights and hence should be accessed by every home free of cost. My stance in this argument is that I believe it is an important survival element and therefore should be provided to all people.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention that the government should use tax funds, the argument lacks depth regarding the economic or logistical feasibility of providing free water to all homes. The essay is somewhat repetitive, particularly in the conclusion, which restates the introduction without adding new insight. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the implications of your argument, perhaps by discussing the potential benefits to public health or social equality in more detail, rather than simply listing the uses of water.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'For instance', 'Thus', and 'In conclusion' to link your sentences. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, but the structure of the sentences within paragraphs could be more varied to improve the overall flow. The paragraphing is appropriate, with each section focusing on a distinct aspect of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on common terms like 'basic', 'important', and 'essential' throughout the essay. While these words are used correctly, they do not demonstrate a wide range of vocabulary. There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'Government should be involve' (should be involved) and 'water body' (which is a bit vague). To improve, try to incorporate more academic collocations and precise terminology related to public policy and resource management.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'thus is it a basic right' (should be 'thus it is'), 'Basic human rights consists' (should be 'consist'), and 'studies shows' (should be 'studies show'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. You should focus on subject-verb agreement and word order in inverted structures to improve your accuracy.
