Student answer (Band 7.0)
The right to the availability of clean water is a fundamental need of every human being. Therefore, every home must be entitled to a free water supply throughout the year.
Firstly, it is a known fact that water is one of the most abundant resources found in oceans, lakes and rivers, which accounts for three-fourths of the surface of planet Earth. However, only a fraction of that water is suitable for human consumption and use. In addition, the technology to treat the ocean water is expensive and yet not economically feasible enough to supply the demand.
In addition, the biggest constraint in making this problem relevant and the technology feasible is the lack of interest by the designated governments and authorities in power across the globe. Surprisingly, there exist different regions across the globe where the infant mortality rates are higher than fifty percent due to inaccessiblity of clean water and not enough awareness on water sanitization.
Furthermore, governments tend to ignore the importance of water and let big corporations exploit water bodies by dumping hazardous industrial waste into lakes, ponds, and oceans, etc. Therefore, such destructive actions are the key reasons behind global death and many infectious outbreaks.
At last, it is now only upon us to take action on our duty as global citizens to hold governments accountable for the mistreatment as well as industrial exploitation of water bodies. Clean water is one of the basic needs of every human being and thus must be a fundamental right of every individual.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the right to clean water. However, the development is inconsistent. While you acknowledge the importance of water, you do not clearly state your position on whether it should be provided 'free of charge'. You discuss the difficulty of treating water and government negligence, but you fail to explicitly argue for or against the 'free' aspect of the proposal. The ideas are relevant but remain somewhat superficial. To reach a higher band, ensure your position is clearly stated in the introduction and consistently supported throughout the body paragraphs with specific arguments addressing the economic feasibility of providing water for free.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. You use cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'In addition', and 'Furthermore' to link your ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the logical progression between the second and third paragraphs is a bit abrupt. The concluding paragraph effectively summarises your stance, though it introduces a new call to action that was not fully explored in the body. Overall, the information is easy to follow, and the paragraphing is appropriate for an academic essay.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fundamental need', 'economically feasible', and 'hazardous industrial waste'. There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'making this problem relevant' which is slightly awkward in this context. You also use 'etc.' at the end of a list, which should generally be avoided in formal academic writing. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. Expanding your use of collocations would improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are clear, and your meaning is rarely obscured by errors. There are some minor grammatical slips, such as 'inaccessiblity of clean water' (missing article 'the') and 'not enough awareness on water sanitization' (preposition choice). Punctuation is generally accurate, though the sentence 'At last, it is now only upon us...' is slightly unnatural in tone. The majority of your sentences are error-free, but you need to incorporate a wider variety of complex grammatical structures to demonstrate higher control.
