Student answer (Band 6.5)
yes i agree with access to clean water is a basic human right and i agree with every home should have a water supply because clean water is most important part of a human life, a human can leave without food for 2week but with out water human can not sustain for 1 week that is the amount of requirement for clean water we won’t even know how much clean water required in our daily life
Here we need to understand the importance of clean water. providing clean water for every house is a great idea there will lot of time and efforts will be saved by house hold who bring the clean water by walking for miles; if mistake haven all the water and efforts will be wasted in this people there will elderly aged people, disabled peopled, women, children and pregnant women; this is the main reason why i agree with the statement provide water for every home ; if this happen women will contribute there time for self development and elderly aged people won’t die or suffer because of water.
but providing water for free of charge for every house i totally disagree because if every basic need comes for free of cost public will forget the value of the clean water. so my opinion is charging a minimum amount for installation and monthly charges will be a better idea because in human nature humans will not waste what there affording hear clean water will not be wasted and the value will stay
the conclusion in access to clean water is a basic human right. Therefore every home should have a water supply that is provided for a minimum charge in a affordable range

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear position that supports access to water as a right but disagrees with the 'free of charge' aspect. The ideas are relevant, such as the mention of time saved for vulnerable groups and the concern regarding water wastage. However, the development is somewhat limited; the arguments are presented in a fairly simplistic manner. To reach a higher band, the student should expand on the implications of their points with more sophisticated reasoning or specific real-world examples, rather than relying on general statements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the argument. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite mechanical and sometimes repetitive. For instance, the transition between ideas often relies on simple connectors like 'so' or 'but'. There are also issues with punctuation and sentence boundaries, which occasionally make the flow of ideas feel disjointed. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that sentences are clearly demarcated would significantly enhance the overall coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. The student uses basic terms like 'great idea' and 'main reason', which are functional but not academic. There are also some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'if mistake haven all the water' and 'humans will not waste what there affording'. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of more sophisticated or topic-specific vocabulary limits the score. Expanding the range of synonyms and collocations related to public policy and resource management would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'a human can leave'), incorrect verb forms, and missing articles. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with many run-on sentences that lack proper conjunctions or full stops. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. To improve, the student should focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common grammatical slips.
