Student answer (Band 6.0)
Clean should not be lacked in every home as it is a basic human right. In the sense all homes should have a free steady supply of water. I completely agree with this statement, and reasons will be stated as the essay progresses.
One on hand, I would never understand why some government agencies in developed countries would insist people need permission and money to access clean water. This can cause a lot of environmental defects if water becomes something difficult to access, for instance; in a situation where a family has a little farm or garden at their backyard and there is limited access to water whether clean or not, it's going to negatively take a toll on their plants. They'll be left with only rainfall as there major source to sustain their garden. And what if its not raining season what will they lean on?
On the other hand I strongly concur that clean water should not be easy to access and should be given for no extra charges in homes as it is natural resources. I believe some government agencies have to right to set a price tag on the access to clean water. Except in cases where the water isn't clean enough for human consumption and may need professional assistance to purify the water which of course that comes with a little extra charge. For example in a community where the water there is dirty and needs to be cleansed, they can call for a h

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The essay addresses the prompt, but the development of ideas is inconsistent and the argument becomes contradictory. You state you agree that water should be free, but then argue that government agencies have the right to set a price tag. This internal contradiction weakens your position. Furthermore, the essay is incomplete, ending abruptly mid-sentence, which prevents a full exploration of the topic. To improve, ensure your arguments are consistent throughout and provide a clear, logical conclusion that summarizes your main points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay uses basic cohesive devices like 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand', which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the progression of ideas is hampered by the abrupt ending and the contradictory nature of the arguments. Paragraphing is present, but the final paragraph is incomplete, which disrupts the overall flow. To reach a higher band, focus on ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that your ideas follow a logical path from introduction to a completed conclusion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. Phrases like 'negatively take a toll' and 'price tag' are understandable but somewhat informal or imprecise. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'Clean should not be lacked'. To improve, try to incorporate more academic vocabulary and collocations related to public policy and economics, and ensure you use words in their correct grammatical context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'In the sense all homes should have' (missing 'that'), 'there major source' (should be 'their'), and 'some government agencies have to right' (should be 'the right'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct pronoun usage, and proofreading for basic grammatical slips.
