Student answer (Band 7.5)
Every human being reserves the fundamental right to access clean water that is fit for consumption. Therefore, every household is entitled to free water supply facilitated by respective administrations across the globe.
Firstly, I agree with the fact that clean water is one of the basic necessities of every living being in order to sustain life on Earth. Unfortunately, there do exist some remote parts of the world where clean water is still not accessible due to adverse climate conditions and poor hygiene conditions in the region. Therefore, poor availability of clean water leads to the spread of many water-borne diseases and thus, also increase infant mortality rate.
Secondly, in the light of these problems, many NGOs step in to provide the necessary care and required awareness among the locals. However, such solutions are only able to deal with the problem at a surface level, and do not deal with the unavailability of clean water.
Although this is where governing authorities need to step in with heavy financial assistance, water treatment plants, as well as robust infrastructure, to ensure all its residents have a regular supply of water that is suitable for human consumption.
For instance, the government of the UAE ensured that all its residents had access to drinkable water in the middle of a desert and sea. They achieved this marvel by investing in and building a tremendous amount of infrastructure around water desalination plants and cloud-seeding projects.
Therefore, I firmly believe that all governments across the globe must intervene and make clean water accessible for all their citizens and households.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response addresses the prompt clearly, maintaining a consistent position throughout. You successfully argue that clean water is a right and that governments should bear the responsibility for its provision. The ideas are relevant and supported by a specific example (the UAE). However, the argument regarding 'free of charge' is slightly under-developed. While you advocate for government intervention, you do not fully explore the economic implications of providing water entirely free of charge versus subsidized access. To reach a higher band, ensure that all parts of the prompt—specifically the 'free of charge' aspect—are explored with equal depth to provide a more balanced and comprehensive argument.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'However', and 'Therefore' to guide the reader through your argument. The progression of ideas is smooth, moving from the necessity of water to the role of NGOs and finally to the responsibility of the government. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate distinct points. To improve, ensure that the transition between the role of NGOs and the government is more seamless, as the shift feels slightly abrupt. Overall, the structure is clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your ideas with precision. Phrases like 'fundamental right', 'water-borne diseases', 'infant mortality rate', and 'robust infrastructure' are used appropriately. There is an attempt to use less common vocabulary, which adds to the academic tone of the essay. While the word choice is generally accurate, there are minor instances where collocations could be more natural, such as 'facilitated by respective administrations'. Expanding your range of topic-specific collocations and ensuring more sophisticated phrasing will help elevate your score further.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. You use complex sentences effectively, such as 'Although this is where governing authorities need to step in...', which shows good control. Most sentences are error-free, and your punctuation is generally accurate. There are occasional minor slips, such as 'also increase infant mortality rate' (should be 'also increases') and 'in the light of these problems' (which is slightly idiomatic but acceptable). To achieve a higher band, aim for a greater variety of complex structures, such as conditional sentences or passive voice constructions, while maintaining your current level of accuracy.
