Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response is significantly under the required 250-word minimum, reaching only 76 words. Because the essay is incomplete, the task is only partially addressed. The introduction establishes a clear position, but the body paragraph is cut off mid-sentence, preventing the development of any arguments or examples. To meet the requirements for a higher band, you must complete the essay by providing fully developed paragraphs that support your position with relevant examples and logical reasoning. Currently, the response fails to provide a sufficient response to the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is too short to demonstrate effective paragraphing or a logical progression of ideas. While there is a basic attempt at an introduction, the lack of a body and conclusion makes it impossible to assess your ability to manage cohesion or organize ideas effectively. The transition 'One significant reason' is a standard cohesive device, but it is not followed by a complete thought. To improve, focus on structuring your essay with a clear introduction, at least two body paragraphs with topic sentences, and a concluding summary.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is functional but limited. Phrases like 'highly debated issue' and 'fundamental human right' are appropriate for the topic, but the range is too narrow to assess accurately due to the brevity of the text. There are also errors in word choice and phrasing, such as 'consuming water should be free home', which is grammatically awkward and unclear. To achieve a higher score, aim to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and ensure your collocations are natural and accurate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The sentence structures attempted are relatively simple. There are noticeable errors in the opening sentence, specifically 'consuming water should be free home', which lacks proper grammatical structure. The second sentence also contains a comma splice and awkward phrasing. Because the text is so short, there is no evidence of a range of complex structures. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and then gradually introduce complex sentences using subordinating conjunctions like 'although', 'because', or 'which'.
