Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by stating a clear position, but the development of ideas is limited and repetitive. The arguments provided are underdeveloped; for instance, the points about water usage (washing, cooking) are mentioned twice without adding depth or nuance. The essay also falls short of the 250-word minimum requirement, which negatively impacts the overall task achievement. To improve, you should focus on expanding your arguments with specific examples or logical consequences rather than repeating the same points. Ensure that each paragraph contributes a distinct, well-supported idea to the overall discussion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often unclear. While you use basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly' and 'Secondly', the transitions between sentences are frequently mechanical and sometimes confusing, such as the shift in the third paragraph regarding water wastage. The referencing is also inconsistent, making it difficult for the reader to follow the logical flow of your argument. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each sentence logically follows the previous one, creating a smoother narrative flow throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is quite basic and repetitive, with frequent misuse of words such as 'chunk of masses' and 'neumerous'. There is a lack of flexibility, and the same words (e.g., 'water', 'important', 'ways') are used repeatedly throughout the text. The range is insufficient to express complex ideas effectively. To improve, try to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'utility', 'essential resource', 'subsidized', or 'conservation'. Expanding your range of synonyms and learning common collocations will help you convey your points with greater clarity and sophistication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'every home have', 'water use in'), article usage, and sentence structure. The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. Complex structures are attempted but are often faulty, leading to confusion. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, particularly subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Practicing the use of complex sentences with correct punctuation will also help you move toward a higher band score.
