Student answer (Band 5.5)

For ages, humans have been working hard to earn wealth to fulfil their basic needs like good quality of food, a better place to live and clean water for their daily consumption. Nowadays, filtered water is being provided by government in many countries and they usually take some amount for it in the form of monthly bills. However, filtered and clean water should be available to all the regions of world without any cost and I strong agree with the notion for some reasons.

Initially, clean water is a basic need for each human being because of its advantages for human health and its also used for household purposes like dish washing and for taking bath etc. However, drinking water is its main purpose because our body needs a specific amount of clean water each days but if we do not provide it, it will cause deseases in our body organs. For example, in recent research, clean water has been declared a basic need for human organs specially for kidney which filter our blood but mostly its failure is causing by bad water.

Secondly, free supply of clean water can reduce the financial burden on a middle class family because in this period of inflation where our state applied taxes on everything and promised to provide basic facilities to the tax payers. So, they need to develope infrastructure to provide filtered water in remote areas as well. For instance, in developed countries, local authorities developed these systems in all the regions of their country where even poor can access clean water for free of cost.

In conclusion, I reach to this point that access to the clean water is a basic human need so the local governments should start implementing these systems without any cost.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

You have clearly stated your position in the introduction and maintained it throughout the essay. The ideas are relevant, focusing on health benefits and financial relief for families. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the claim that developed countries provide free water to all regions is a broad generalization that lacks specific, verifiable evidence. To reach a higher band, you should provide more nuanced arguments, perhaps acknowledging the economic challenges governments face in providing free utilities, which would demonstrate a more sophisticated engagement with the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Initially', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where referencing is slightly unclear, such as 'if we do not provide it' (referring to water, but the antecedent is slightly distant). Additionally, some transitions are repetitive. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your meaning, such as 'consumption', 'infrastructure', and 'inflation'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'causing by bad water' instead of 'caused by', and 'I strong agree' instead of 'I strongly agree'. The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, focus on learning collocations (words that naturally go together) and ensure you are using the correct word forms in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'government in many countries' (missing article 'the'), 'its also used' (confusing 'it is' with 'its'), and 'each days' (pluralization error). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles to improve your accuracy.
