Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout, arguing that a small charge for water is necessary for conservation and infrastructure maintenance. The ideas are relevant and logically developed. However, the response is somewhat brief, and the development of ideas could be more sophisticated. For instance, the argument regarding 'cleaning processes' is a bit vague and could have been expanded with more specific examples of water treatment technology or economic management. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points, but the overall depth of the argument is limited, which prevents it from reaching a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Beside this' and 'In simple words'. Additionally, there are instances where the flow is interrupted by grammatical errors, which makes the progression of ideas feel slightly disjointed at times. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the overall structure could benefit from more varied and natural linking phrases to improve the flow between sentences.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward word choices and incorrect collocations, such as 'acquire free contaminate water' (instead of 'access to free, clean water') and 'mass wasting water' (instead of 'excessive water wastage'). Some terms are repeated, and the range of vocabulary is somewhat limited. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of sophisticated or idiomatic language restricts the score. Improving the accuracy of word forms and collocations would significantly enhance the quality of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'government also take small charges'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'people are forget', 'people realis'), and missing articles or prepositions. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent and noticeable. The range of structures is limited, and the control over complex sentences is inconsistent. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like tense consistency and pluralization.
