Student answer (Band 5.5)

For ages, humans have been working hard to earn wealth to fulfil their basic needs like good quality of food, a better place to live and clean water for their daily consumption. Nowadays, filtered water is being provided by the government in many countries and they usually take some amount for it in the form of monthly bills. However, filtered and clean water should be available to all the regions of the world without any cost and I strongly agree with the notion for some reasons.

Initially, clean water is a basic need for each human being because of its advantages for human health and its also used for household purposes like dish washing and for taking bath etc. However, drinking water is its main purpose because our body needs a specific amount of clean water each day but if we do not provide it, it will cause diseases in our body organs. For example, in recent research, clean water has been declared a basic need for human organs especially for kidneys which filter our blood but mostly its failure is causing by bad water.

Secondly, free supply of clean water can reduce the financial burden on a middle class family because in this period of inflation where our state applied taxes on everything and promised to provide basic facilities to the tax payers. So, they need to develop infrastructure to provide filtered water in remote areas as well. For instance, in developed countries, local authorities developed these systems in all the regions of their country where even the poor can access clean water for free of cost.

In conclusion, I reach to this point that access to the clean water is a basic human need so the local governments should start implementing these systems without any cost.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding health benefits and financial relief for families are relevant. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the claim that developed countries provide free water to all regions is a broad generalization that lacks nuance or specific evidence. While the main points are clear, the essay would benefit from deeper exploration of the economic implications of 'free' water, such as how such a system would be funded or maintained, to reach a higher band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'Initially,' 'Secondly,' and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing and flow, such as the awkward phrasing in the final sentence: 'I reach to this point that access to the clean water is a basic human need.' Improving the variety and sophistication of linking words would enhance the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'notion' and 'infrastructure,' which are used correctly. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'mostly its failure is causing by bad water' (should be 'caused by') and 'take some amount for it' (should be 'charge a fee'). The range is sufficient to communicate, but lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'its also used' (should be 'it is'), 'dish washing' (should be 'dishwashing'), and 'in this period of inflation where our state applied taxes' (tense inconsistency). Additionally, there are issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more consistent control over complex structures.
