Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of free water. However, the essay is significantly under the 250-word minimum, which limits the depth of the argument. While the main ideas are relevant, they are under-developed. For example, the suggestion that governments should use 'smart meters' is mentioned but not explained in relation to the core argument of free access. The response lacks a formal structure, such as a proper introduction or conclusion, and the brevity prevents a full exploration of the topic, resulting in a lower band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear organizational structure. Paragraphs are fragmented, and there is a lack of logical progression between ideas. Cohesive devices are largely absent or misused, such as the abrupt transition in 'when people have clean water at home they can wash their hands'. The lack of linking words makes the text feel like a series of disconnected sentences rather than a cohesive argument. The use of punctuation is also inconsistent, which further disrupts the flow of information and makes the text difficult to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, often relying on simple phrasing like 'clean water' and 'government'. There are frequent spelling errors such as 'nesesory', 'amound', and 'harvasting', which occasionally impede readability. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas effectively. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the lack of variety and the presence of word-choice errors (e.g., 'mostly people that can ill') indicate a limited lexical range that struggles to meet the requirements of an academic task.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The response relies almost exclusively on simple sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('No one should has a adjust', 'government should be improve') and missing articles. Punctuation is used incorrectly throughout, with many sentences lacking proper capitalization or ending marks. The lack of complex sentence structures and the high frequency of errors in basic grammar significantly limit the score. To improve, you must focus on sentence construction, verb tenses, and consistent punctuation.
