Student answer (Band 6.0)
Water is crucial part of our life. Without water life is impossible. To keep ourselves healthy, clean water is a basic human necessity. I firmly hold the view that water supply should be free of charge.
One of the primary reasons is water is used everyday in houses. People pay taxes on everything they earn and purchase. Paying for electricity and other basic utilities whereas, water supply needs to provide for free of cost.
In addition, government should implement restrictions on water utility as in peak summers washing cars, overwatering the plants or backyard etc. So, people will have more clarity about the usage of water instead of using it unthoughfully if its cost nothing.
Moreover, there are some households who can barely afford the living expenses and imagine paying for the basic human necessity! A study conducted by HFSA, shows that people being interviewed for the water supply cost and out of 100, 95 people agreed for free supply of water due to living expenses increasing drastically day to day.
However, supplying free clean water will reduce the risk of disease people face from drinking contaminated water. Thus, increase the overall health of people costing less for hospital funds and doctor’s pay.
Conclusively, free and clean water is necessary for healthy living. Clean water is basic long term infrastructure investment and has to be a universal right.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position, but it fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 228 words. This under-length significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the main arguments regarding health and economic necessity are relevant, they are somewhat underdeveloped. The supporting points, such as the mention of a study, lack sufficient detail to fully explore the implications of the argument. To improve, you should expand on your reasoning with more nuanced examples and ensure you meet the minimum word count to allow for a more comprehensive discussion of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'Moreover', and 'Conclusively' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the transition between the economic argument and the health argument could be smoother. Referencing is generally clear, but the overall progression of ideas feels slightly abrupt due to the brevity of the paragraphs. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph develops a single, cohesive argument fully before moving to the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'infrastructure investment', 'contaminated water', and 'living expenses'. However, there are some awkward phrasings, such as 'using it unthoughtfully' and 'costing less for hospital funds'. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on simpler, repetitive structures. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations and avoid word-choice errors that slightly hinder the sophistication of your argument.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'water supply needs to provide for free of cost' (passive voice error) and 'if its cost nothing' (tense/subject-verb agreement). Punctuation is mostly accurate, but there are minor slips throughout. The frequency of these errors does not impede communication, but they do prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on mastering subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive voice constructions to improve your accuracy.
