Student answer (Band 5.5)
Nowadays, water problem is the biggest problem in world. Some people believe that water is freely available by the Government. According to me, this concern has pros and cons and i partially agree with this.
On the one hand, many people have opinion that water is freely available because it is natural resource. Access to clean water is a human right. In recent time, finding clean water in some areas is similar to finding salt in sand. People believe that the Government should insure that every people get enough drinking water without any cost. For example, in some villages of Maharashtra, villagers does not get enough water and they must to walk around 10-15 km daily to take only few amount of water for their daily use. Also they are not capable to purchase water bottle.
On the other hand, it may not possible to provide clean water to every home without any cost. Some country have a large population and they also need huge amount of water for their daily needs. For example, India and China have a large population and they need huge amount of water for daily uses. The government takes different types of tax in water uses to manage water sources and also create new sources. If the Government should not take any types of tax then it can damage financial structure of country.
In conclusion, provide water supply to every home without any charge is not possible. The Government must take some amount of tax to maintain these sources.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both sides of the argument regarding free water supply. You clearly state your position in the introduction. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding the 'financial structure of the country' is mentioned but not fully explored or supported with specific economic reasoning. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is extended with more depth and nuance. The examples provided, such as the situation in Maharashtra and the population scale of India and China, are relevant and help support your position effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use basic cohesive devices like 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' to signal shifts in your logic. However, the flow between sentences within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical. Some transitions are missing or repetitive, and the referencing (e.g., 'this concern') could be more precise. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence logically follows the previous one would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'natural resource', 'financial structure', and 'maintain these sources'. However, there are instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'water problem is the biggest problem in world' (should be 'the world') and 'insure' (should be 'ensure'). The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, and you rely on simple descriptors. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and less common academic vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('villagers does not get', 'some country have'), article misuse ('in world'), and awkward verb constructions ('must to walk'). These errors are noticeable but do not significantly impede communication. To achieve a higher score, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and refining your use of articles and prepositions. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures while maintaining accuracy will also be beneficial.
