Student answer (Band 5.5)

At the beginning of the human history, water is accessibe by everyone at no cost, that not look same today. I also strongly disagree with the notion that everyone must have water supply free of cost because of water wastage and less investment opportunities issues in future.

Water is a basic human need, everyone needs that precious item to live in this universe, but when people get anything free they always waste it more fastly, as i mention water is a gold like gift from nature, so we should take measures to prevent it from wasting. The task only be achieved by making water paid item because that way people use water only for their need rather than wastage as they know they have to pay for that activity. For example, i always double check my water pump motor button because if my water storage fullfilled and i did not off my motor it pull more water and that increase my water bill.

Furthermore, people show less interest in those types of models that are free and are not guaranted any profit. Due to this people are not willing to invest in these business adventures. Nowadays governments not take any projects independently, they always need private funds to make project successful but if they make water free no one come forward to invest in it. For example, my cousin invested in water filtration plant because he gets profit by selling clean water.

In a conclusion, water is a basic human right, but the wastage of water and make it less attractive for investers always decrease water resources that ends water supply one day. Therefore, make water payable only way to restore it for future generations.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position against free water supply. The ideas regarding water wastage and the need for investment are relevant and logically developed. However, the development is somewhat simplistic. For instance, the argument about investment could be more nuanced by discussing the role of government subsidies versus privatization. While the position is consistent throughout, the supporting examples, such as the personal anecdote about the water pump, are a bit informal for an academic essay. Overall, the task is addressed, but the depth of analysis is limited, keeping it at a mid-range level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Furthermore' and 'In a conclusion', though some transitions feel mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'The task only be achieved'. Referencing is generally clear, but there are instances where the flow between sentences is slightly disjointed due to grammatical errors. The progression of ideas is logical, moving from the problem of wastage to the economic necessity of charging for water, which provides a coherent structure for the reader to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'waste it more fastly' (should be 'more quickly') and 'make water payable' (should be 'charge for water'). While the student successfully communicates their ideas, the range of vocabulary is limited, and there is a reliance on basic terms. To improve, the student should focus on more sophisticated collocations and academic vocabulary related to economics and resource management.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('governments not take', 'water is accessibe'), article usage, and tense consistency. For example, 'at the beginning of the human history' should be 'at the beginning of human history'. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. More attention to basic sentence construction and proofreading for small errors would be beneficial.
