Student answer (Band 5.0)
Fresh water is a fundamental right of an individual. Therefore, everyone who lives in a home needs water, which is essential for an individual. Everyone should have a water supply in their home that is without a billing method.
I strongly agree with this statement. Because water is an essential source of energy for everyone. Every individual has a right to drink clean water in his socity. So, the government should have the responsibility to provide clean water for everyone who lives in society.
For instance, the UK government decided in recent years to give free clean water who live in the UK. This is a historical step for the UK government
Secondly, I agree because a person who lives hand to mouth will not pay the water supply bill.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 130 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you state your position clearly, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack sufficient explanation or supporting evidence. The example regarding the UK government is vague and lacks context. To improve, you must expand your arguments by providing detailed explanations, counter-arguments, and more specific, accurate examples. The current length prevents a full exploration of the topic, which is essential for a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into short paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is limited due to the brevity of the text. You use basic cohesive devices like 'For instance' and 'Secondly', but the overall flow is disjointed. The connection between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the lack of a concluding paragraph makes the structure feel incomplete. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence followed by supporting details that logically lead to the next point.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'fundamental right', 'essential source', and 'lives hand to mouth' are used, but there is little attempt to use more sophisticated or academic vocabulary. Some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'without a billing method' instead of 'free of charge' or 'subsidized'. To achieve a higher score, you should aim to incorporate more precise academic collocations and synonyms to avoid repetition and demonstrate a broader range of vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. For example, 'give free clean water who live in the UK' is grammatically incorrect and lacks a clear object. There are also issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of errors in basic sentence construction limits the score. Focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your complex sentences are structured correctly.
