Student answer (Band 5.0)
As mentioned that clean water is basic human right so it should be available in every house as water is one of the most valuable and important thing we should provide water freely because water is a gift from nature and we cannot take something which the nature has given to mankind. As food, water, clothing and shelter are basic human right so we should make water available at every house. The main place where water are scarce is Africa many of the citizens there wouldn't even have proper water to drink because there are deserts across the country like Sahara desert and egypt as there are deserts all over the country that is the main reason of the scarcity people living there have to pay a huge amount of money to get clean water to drink which should be free and present every where water cannot be controlled to drinking as the water is not enough to drink many people there die as scarcity of water. Also i have seen an area near my place where people have to wait for seven days just to get clear and potable water and why they have to wait as water is everywhere people should get this regularly. Citizens should get free drinking water regularly because humans can live without food but they cannot live without water so as to solve the world problem we should and must make drinking water free for each and every person free and should make it basic right.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of free water. However, the development of ideas is limited. The essay relies on repetitive assertions rather than exploring the economic or logistical implications of universal free water. The example regarding Africa is overly generalized and lacks specific, well-integrated evidence. The argument remains somewhat superficial, failing to address counter-arguments or the complexities of infrastructure and funding. To improve, you should expand on your reasoning with more nuanced points, such as the role of government subsidies or the impact on public health, rather than repeating that water is a 'basic right'.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is written as a single, long paragraph, which significantly impacts coherence. There is a lack of clear paragraphing to separate the introduction, body arguments, and conclusion. While there is a basic logical flow, the transition between ideas is often abrupt or missing. Cohesive devices are used sparingly and sometimes incorrectly, such as the repetitive use of 'as' and 'because' to link clauses. To achieve a higher band, you must organize your response into distinct paragraphs and use a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'on the other hand') to guide the reader through your argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'basic human right', 'water is everywhere', and 'scarcity of water' are used multiple times, which restricts the range of your expression. There are also some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'water cannot be controlled to drinking' and 'scarcity of water' (which should be 'due to the scarcity'). To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'infrastructure', 'universal access', 'socio-economic', or 'sustainability', and avoid repeating the same basic phrases throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'water are scarce', 'water are everywhere'), run-on sentences, and missing punctuation. The sentence structures are predominantly simple or repetitive, lacking the complexity required for higher bands. For instance, the opening sentence is a long, unpunctuated run-on. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subjects and verbs agree, and using full stops to separate distinct ideas. Incorporating more complex sentence structures, such as relative clauses or conditional sentences, would also help demonstrate a wider range.
