Student answer (Band 6.0)
Access to clean water is a basic human right, and some people believe that every home should receive water free of charge. I agree that everyone should have access to clean water because it is necessary for a healthy life. However, I also believe that there should be a limit on the amount of free water people can use.
Firstly, clean water is essential for every person. People need it for drinking, cooking, cleaning, and other daily activities. If families cannot afford clean water, they may use dirty water, which can cause many diseases. Providing a basic amount of free water can improve public health and reduce the number of illnesses. It can also help poor families who struggle to pay their monthly bills.
On the other hand, giving unlimited free water may create problems. Some people may waste water because they do not have to pay for it. In addition, the government spends a lot of money on cleaning and supplying water to homes. If everyone receives unlimited free water, it could become difficult to maintain the water supply system. Therefore, people should receive a limited amount of water for free, while they should pay for any extra water they use.
In conclusion, I agree that every household should have access to a free supply of clean water because it is a basic human need. However, free water should only cover essential daily use, and people should pay for additional consumption to avoid wasting this important resource and must help others if others doesn't have access to the clean water .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position that supports free water access while proposing a pragmatic limitation. The ideas are relevant and logically developed, such as the link between water costs and public health, and the economic argument regarding infrastructure maintenance. The position is consistent throughout the essay. To reach a higher band, the student could provide more specific examples or deeper analysis of the 'human right' aspect versus the economic reality of utility management, as the current development is somewhat brief.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'On the other hand', and 'In addition' are used effectively to link sentences and paragraphs. The referencing is generally clear, though the final sentence of the conclusion is slightly clunky and could be better integrated into the flow of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is sufficient for the task and allows for clear communication. The student uses relevant topic-specific terms like 'public health', 'infrastructure', 'consumption', and 'essential daily use'. While the range is adequate, it lacks the more sophisticated or idiomatic expressions that would characterize a higher band score. There are no significant spelling errors, and word choice is generally accurate, though some phrasing is quite simple.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are error-free, and the meaning is always clear. However, there are minor grammatical slips, such as 'if others doesn't have access' (subject-verb agreement error) and the slightly awkward phrasing 'must help others if others doesn't have access to the clean water'. These errors are infrequent and do not impede communication, but they prevent the essay from reaching the 8.0 band, which requires a majority of error-free sentences.
