Student answer (Band 5.5)
In contemporary society, the access to fresh water is a basic right of individuals and the water supply should be provided free of cost to every household. From my perspective, I strongly agree that free water supply must be given to every house since it plays an essential role in the daily lives of human beings. This essay will clarify why this position is justified with some reasons and multiple examples.
One of the main reasons supporting my view is that the free water supply to every home facilitate individuals in carry out their regular tasks. In other words, the water consumption is a major part of our society and it helps in maintaining hygiene. For instance, if the authority provides free water facility to every family, there will be a decline in the spread of several harmful allergies. Furthermore, the expense of families who purchase water could be significantly reduced. Consequently, the free water facility for every house would result in better hygiene and improved lifestyle.
Another strong reason upholding my viewpoint is that numerous underprivileged individuals who are residing in the arid areas can be benefited from free water since it is a basic necessity of every human being. By supplying free water to those needy citizens assist them in performing their daily activities more effectively. For example, the residents living in the rural areas who confront contagious ailments which are linked to poor hygiene can easily fight their illness with the use of water. As a result, free water supply improves the lifestyle of rural citizens and assist them in performing their daily tasks.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that the water is a basic source of living for every individual and it must be provided to each household with no cost. Therefore, the authorities should encourage free water supply initiatives which bring benefits to human beings in terms of financial affordability and better health.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding hygiene and the needs of underprivileged populations are relevant and logically developed. However, the essay tends to over-generalize, particularly in the claim that free water would reduce 'harmful allergies,' which is not a standard or well-supported argument in this context. While the ideas are relevant, they could be further extended with more specific real-world examples or a deeper exploration of the economic implications of providing free water, which would elevate the response to a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'In other words,' 'Furthermore,' and 'Consequently' are used to link sentences, though some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The progression of ideas is generally clear, although the connection between the second paragraph's focus on 'allergies' and the overall argument could be smoother. Overall, the text is easy to follow, and the logical flow is maintained throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use less common vocabulary, such as 'contemporary society,' 'underprivileged,' and 'arid areas.' However, there are some inaccuracies in collocation and word choice, such as 'facilitate individuals in carry out' (should be 'facilitate carrying out') and 'confront contagious ailments' (which is slightly unnatural). While the range is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, more precise and varied vocabulary would be required to reach a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb forms and prepositions, such as 'By supplying free water to those needy citizens assist them' (should be 'assists them') and 'the water is a basic source' (the definite article is unnecessary here). These errors are noticeable but do not impede communication. To improve, the student should focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, as well as ensuring that complex sentence structures are constructed with greater accuracy.
