Student answer (Band 6.0)

Access to clean water is essential for human survival amd fpr good health. I strongly agree that every household should recive a badic amount of water without any cost because it is fundamental human rights. However i also believes that excessive consumption for water should be charged by the government to prevent waste.

Firstly, provoding clean water to every house hold protects the citizens from heath issues. Many health care issues like typhiod, chlorea can spread at a high range therefore all of this situation causes presure on the healthcare department. On the other hand, households with the low income budget will not be able to afford clean water for their basic needs. Government should provide everyone access enough for their basic needs like cooking, cleaning and maintaining basic hygeine.

Secondly, free water access and develop a sensse of eqality and improves the quality of life. Water is as important as air so it shouldn't be consider as luxury. For instance, in many develop countries people are surviving on the unclean water just because they can't afford the clean water. Providing a basic amount of water free of charge promotes equality and make life style better.

However, unlimited access of water leads towards the wastage of water to protect this govenment should put charges on it to protect the natural resources.

In conclusion, I agree that every home should receive a basic supply of clean water free of charge because it is a basic human necessity. Nevertheless, charging for excessive consumption is a sensible way to encourage responsible water use.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position that supports free basic water while advocating for charges on excessive use. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed, such as the link between water access and public health. However, some arguments could be more thoroughly supported; for example, the claim that people in developed countries survive on unclean water is a significant over-generalisation that lacks nuance. The position is consistent throughout the essay, and the conclusion effectively synthesises the main points, demonstrating a clear understanding of the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organised with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, such as health benefits or equality. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'However', which help guide the reader. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by mechanical transitions or slightly repetitive phrasing. Referencing is generally clear, though some sentences feel slightly disjointed due to minor errors in sentence structure. Overall, the progression of ideas is logical and easy to follow, meeting the requirements for a band 6.5 or 7.0 level of coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'excessive consumption', 'natural resources', and 'hygiene'. However, there are several spelling errors (e.g., 'amd', 'fpr', 'recive', 'badic', 'typhiod', 'chlorea', 'presure', 'hygeine', 'govenment') and some awkward word choices like 'high range' instead of 'large scale'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a wider range of precise lexical items to reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, such as 'i also believes' (subject-verb agreement), 'develop a sensse' (verb form), and 'in many develop countries' (adjective form). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of capital letters and commas. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout the text. To improve, the writer should focus on subject-verb agreement, consistent verb tenses, and more accurate use of articles and pluralisation.
