Student answer (Band 6.0)

Unanimously, in the period of globalization, many people are lacking the basic necessities of life, like food, electricity clean drinking water. This has been the prominent topic of discussion amongst people. Well, I strongly agree that people should be given clean drinking water for free and the supporting towards my view will be discussed in the subsequent paragraphs.

Firstly, supporting my agreement to the given statement, I firmly have a belief that fresh drinking water is needed by all species for their survival. Additionally, another aspect which propels my view is that without fresh drinking water people could die from dehydration. For instance, many African countries do not have access to clean drinking water and the people are barely surviving in those regions.

Secondly, another supporting aspect favoring this statement is that there is no doubt that water being the basic human need and fundamental right of the people and governments are bound to provide it for free to the citizens of their respective countries without imposing any charges or taxes as the lack of water can result in more and more fatalities. Without free access to water, it would be like going back to the drawing board situation. To exemplify, during the natural calamities, other nations do provide basic amenities like food and water without charging a single penny.

In conclusion, I pen down highlighting that the aforementioned given pointers heavily support my sense of belief regarding the access to clean drinking water for free, which are worthy enough to strongly support my view point. To make it more effective, a joint effort is needed by the government and the citizens of the country by not wasting a drop.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive and lacks depth. For instance, the argument that water is necessary for survival is a biological fact rather than a persuasive point regarding the economic policy of 'free' water. The examples provided, such as the mention of African countries and natural calamities, are relevant but remain superficial. To reach a higher band, you should explore the economic implications, such as the burden on government budgets or the potential for water wastage, to provide a more balanced and nuanced discussion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression from the introduction to the conclusion. You use some cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion' to signal the structure. However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'I pen down highlighting that'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear; for example, 'the supporting towards my view' is grammatically imprecise, which slightly disrupts the flow of ideas. Improving the variety and naturalness of your linking phrases would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on some repetitive phrasing, such as 'fresh drinking water' and 'supporting aspect'. There are also some instances of unnatural collocation, such as 'going back to the drawing board situation', which does not fit the context of providing water. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to public policy, economics, or social welfare, and focus on using words in their correct collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'the supporting towards my view' and 'the aforementioned given pointers'. Some sentences are slightly clunky, like 'I firmly have a belief that'. Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors in sentence construction that prevent the writing from being error-free. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and refining the structure of your complex sentences to ensure they are grammatically sound.
