Student answer (Band 5.5)

water is one of the most essential need of every living organism. water is something that helps human being in living. this is something we can not afford to lose and most important thing is that it has to be clean. as for my perspective having a clean water at your home is a basic need of life.

in todays world we can observe that not every one is blessed with the clean water. even though most of the societies are providing mineral water but there are still many areas in our country have no access to clean water. people are struggling to get clean water for their children now lets get deeper into that topic. what if people are unable to drink clean water?

this is a serious question because modern science has discovered many new viruses. these viruses are not only effecting older people but children are the real victims. this is a huge problem our societies are facing these days and needs to be addressed.

in order to fix that problem i strongly agree that every house should have access to clean water. There are hundreds of companies that are selling mineral water bottles but the question is that why it has to be paid to drink water?

not every person is rich enough and many are earning hand to mouth income.

government should have make plans to overcome this problem because i don't think drinking bacterial free water needs to be paid. to wind up my thoughts i would like to say that water supply to every home needs to be prioritized.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of free water access. However, the development of ideas is limited. While you mention health risks and economic inequality, these points are not fully extended or supported with specific evidence or logical depth. The essay relies on general assertions rather than a structured argument. To improve, you should focus on providing concrete examples or a more detailed explanation of how a free water system could be implemented or the specific societal benefits it would yield. The response is somewhat repetitive in its focus on the necessity of water rather than the economic argument for it being free.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is somewhat disjointed. The transition between the importance of water and the economic argument for free supply is abrupt. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often basic or repetitive (e.g., 'this is something', 'in order to fix that problem'). The use of paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks logical flow, making the argument feel like a series of loosely connected thoughts rather than a cohesive essay. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on simple, repetitive phrasing such as 'clean water' and 'huge problem'. There is little attempt to use less common or academic vocabulary. Some collocations are slightly unnatural, such as 'earning hand to mouth income' or 'government should have make plans'. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more sophisticated synonyms and precise academic terminology related to public policy, economics, and health.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'these viruses are not only effecting' instead of 'affecting'), missing articles, and incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'government should have make plans'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with many sentences lacking proper capitalization at the beginning. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would be beneficial.
