Student answer (Band 5.5)

I personally believe that access to clean water is a basic human right. Therefore, every home should have a water supply that is provided free of charge. I partially agree to the given statement.

In my opinion, access to clean water for every home should be provided for free but there are always some pros and cons. When the water is supplied for free to each and every house it will lead to water wastage because everyone will misuse it considering its free to use and there will be unlimited use of the water. This is not good for long period of time because in future people will suffer water shortage and eventually the death rate will increase. In my area once the district minister started this for each and every house which later led to shortage of water supply after that the rule got cancelled and back to normal.

From my perspective, if clean water is provided with some measures then it will turn out to be greatest thing ever. Many people dies because of drinking contaminated water. If limited water is supplied to every family according to their need then it will make a great difference as everyone will use water responsibly. It will create a big difference like clean water should be provided enough for their daily needs like drinking, washing clothes etc. This measures will surely lead to responsible use of water.

In conclusion, if clean water is provided in limit it will be the best thing to do as everyone will get clean water and due to limit, people will use it responsibly.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear, albeit nuanced, position. You acknowledge the importance of clean water as a right while arguing against it being entirely free due to potential wastage. The ideas are relevant, such as the mention of the district minister's policy, which provides a concrete example. However, the development is somewhat repetitive, particularly in the conclusion and the third paragraph, where the same point about 'limited' supply is restated. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph introduces a distinct aspect of the argument rather than circling back to the same point.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a basic progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'In my opinion', 'From my perspective', 'In conclusion'). Furthermore, some transitions between sentences are abrupt, such as the jump from the general argument to the personal example in the second paragraph. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the flow and coherence of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. You rely on basic phrasing such as 'greatest thing ever', 'big difference', and 'not good'. While these communicate your meaning, they do not demonstrate a sophisticated range. There are also some minor issues with collocation, such as 'provided in limit' instead of 'provided with limitations' or 'rationed'. To improve, focus on using more academic collocations and precise terminology related to public policy and resource management.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'Many people dies' (subject-verb agreement), 'This measures' (demonstrative-noun agreement), and 'considering its free' (missing apostrophe in 'it's'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some missing commas in complex sentences. The errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and pluralization errors.
